Title: Eagle and turbos
Post by: Cary and Don on February 26, 2011, 11:19:49 AM
We have been looking at an Eagle with a 8v71.  It is very low mileage, paper work to prove it. How hard is it to turbo this engine?  We are used to a 6v92 with a blower and turbo in our 4107.  We are concerned about the power of the 8v71 in the 40' Eagle.

Sell the 8v71 and buy a 6v92TA or 8v92TA neither is a hard exchange in a Eagle

good luck

Well,  how hard is it to change it out to the 8v92TA?  We have one of those. Will it fit in the 73 Eagle without a bunch of modifications? The 8V92 has an Allison 740 on it the 8V71 has an Allison 750 on it.

Taking as per you post it must be a model 05  with a 8v71 only hard part is the air horn on a 8v92 and they are available or can be fab easy unless it came from a MCI then it is a bitch Eagles used standard truck setup with the compressor up right, motors mounts work from the 8v71 with out much fab work and if you don't have the front mount turbo you need to raise the bed the front mount turbo is the way to go they are around also

good luck

The 8v92 is in our Neoplan.  The turbo kind of sits on the pulley end of the engine.  Our engine has 35k mile on it so we wouldn't mind making the trade.  Would the transmissions interchange, 748 to 750 with out a lot of work?

The 748 is a electronic transmission why change to the 740 the 740 will work with your DDEC fwiw let me know if you want sell the 748 people are looking for so they can do away with the drop box on the Eagle so they have a better selection of rear gear ratios with a straight T drive behind the M-11 or ISM engines

good luck

Oh dear,  we forgot that the Neoplan was electronic.  Now that is a whole new ball game.  How had would it be then to remove all the electronics on the engine and keep the 750 transmission in the Eagle?
