Any one out there ever remove a fuel tank on a 5A? Mine has an intermittent leak(which in itself has me puzzled). Thanks, mike
Yup done that too. What do you want to know? Its simple. As I recall two fuel lines and there's a strap on each side you reach from the battery compartment on one side and the heater core area on the other side. Slides right out after you unhook the fuel guage wire. I've even got pictures if need be.

Ewe! That is a job I need to do. Ours are probably a bit different, but with mine I have a drain under the tank and as soon as summer gets a little closer I will be buying one of those toddler kiddie pools to drain my tank into. Are you going to be cleaning yours out to find and fix the leak?
When I took the tank out of my MCI 7 I bought a electric fuel pump and hose. I then put one end of the hose in the tank and then on the out side of the pump I used 5 gallon cans. Pumped out all the fuel that way. I was able to take the cover off the outside of the tank and then came the fun of pulling the tank. Course first I removed the fuel lines and sender wire. Then came the grunt work. Had to pry the front of the tank up by hal inch but still could not pull it out, not enough beans so I got a rope around the tank, got my trusty tractor and it had the beans to pull the tank out the side. Was pretty much a snap to put it back in. I pulled it because of course it leaked, darn 30 year old tank anyway.
No leaks since then.
Hope this helps.

Yes ,going to try to find leak and fix. At first it leaked when the tank was close to full, so I drained it down some and the leak stopped. All of a sudden this winter,I walk by and see a puddle under the tank. I know I need to repair before I run into bigger trouble. thanks

I'm not sure about diesel, but petrol will certainly melt and soften many types of plastic - I suggest you do some testing with your kiddie pool before going the whole hog and draining a tank's worth of fuel into it. You might end up with a lot of melted plastic and a minor environmental disaster in your back yard.

Thank you Jeremy! Im not sure about the #2 diesel, but I got home brew stuff in my tank and it feels oily not chemically dry stuff like......
Oh my what a chore .We had to remove our fuel tank in our 4104. It was a battle geting it done. Hardly any room to really get in to remove the 3 straps that held it done ecpecially the rear one. Then not to mention how much fuel was in the tank before we got started and what to put it in after we pumped it all out. What we ended up doing was going to our local walmart and buying three huge totes with locking lids then we wonder just how would we suck all the fuel out. So I got the idea of purchaseing a new garden hose and getting a little pump that attaches to the hose on one side of it then another lenght to to the other side .After you get that all hooked up you use your drill which the end of the pump hooks to it .It works great but takes little time if your tank is very full .
