80 and sunny! Sitting next to a fine MCI 9 (Hi Yo Silver) Mini rally 2 buses. In Sunny Ocola Florida. Close to 800 miles and oil never dropped a fraction on dip stick. Slowed down to late 60's and gained at least 1/2 mile per gallon. Life is good.... prob off topic but we all need a break and realize most of our trips are uneventful. There was a revitalized excitement when I hit the road I didn't remember the great feeling but sure came back quickly. Bob
Yeah...what Bob said! LOL Come on down!
Dennis
It's snowing here, temps down into the lower teens, I am working on my bus and keep moving it in and out of the shop. I have to plug the block heater in and even then it is not real cooperative! You know I really don't like you guys anyways!!!! :D :D
Scott about 150 Harleys in walmart lot this evening didn't see you. Good trip and still haven't figured out defroster motor. Well got a month to figure it out. Any Idea's?
I did find someone that might be able to help you out Bob....... Red Green Show - Heated Windshield (17) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDLfMnNQWcQ#)
As far as Hi Yo Silver...... Well one of my best friend's last name is Silver and he's the President of our Yaht Club. He wears shorts over longjohns when it gets hot out. Maybe they are related. But as I am snowblowing the driveway and sidewalk people drive by and wave. Eventually someone stops with a beer or wanting to borrow one. Before you know it we decide that it will be melted off tomorrow anyways, the wife reminds me that I forgot the steps, and it starts snowing again. It's a good life indeed!!! ;)
Where in Ocala are you guys at?
Are internet cyber bullies welcome?
If I can get away this weekend, might drop in for a minute or so!
Why all the Harley's? Something special happening? Maybe we could ride ours up there when we come!
Daytona Bike Weeks , Ace!! Last year a bud of mine hauled 2 bikes and the women down there with the bus to fulfill a lifetime (okay.... a 1 year) dream of mine. Spent 1 day in Daytona (3 hours ???) and the rest at theme parks around Orlando. Next trip is sans wives!!!! I could have been watching a wet T shirt contest but instead I was riding in a floating imitation sippy cup listening to "It's a small small world"!!!
Well Bob its nice to hear its nice there. We had 16" over the weekend here in Minnesnowta. I'm getting the itch also and will be pulling the bus into the heated side of the shop to get going on some tinkery things and a pesky leak before we head down Kentucky way the end of March. So thanks for rubbing it in.
Fred
Scott dang I knew about Bike week but forgot all about it being so soon!
Been working a lot lately and then coming home to work on my old 750 Honda spirit so I can ready it to sell it off. Pulled the carbs and cleaned them because I let it sit too long. What a job! Almost done though!
About 0 here and a foot of new snow. Heading to FL 2nd week of March, thanks for the tease. Havent been in FL since '65....not really excited about it aside from a little bit or sun and warmth.
We were just in Florida. Got to go to Clearwater Beach. Love that beach. Beautiful!
We are going to ft pierce, wherever that is.
I have been waiting for a post like this... I am a bus wanna-be, but have been reluctant to jump in with both feet because of the nature of this forum mostly covering troubles and not the good trips. I knew there had to be those good trips where nothing broke...gives me some hope now. I was beginning to wonder if I could ever just travel worry free and enjoy the journey.
Bob - You need to go down the street to El Toreo and have a couple Margarita's (can't remember if it's 2 for 1 on Tuesday or Wednesday - call ahead and ask) We'll be along shortly ;)

I dont own a Bus yet either, but I think I have a tentative deal and need to go down there and consumate it. IMHO, most of the big problems can be headed off before every leaving home. Engines dont generally just blow up out of the blue, transmissions, at least manual ones dont suddenly break without warning, and neither do rear axles. At least its not normal. Greyhound would have moved away from Detroits in a heart beat if they were a problem. The fact they used them almost exclusively for over 60 years should be a testament in itself, seeing as they could have used anybody elses.
IMHO, someone mechanically inclined that can get in there and go through all the inspections and adjustments and know the machine, by the book, will have fewer big problems. IOW, know your Bus. Just my $0.02. Many older buses havnt been serviced or inspected well since they came out of service. Some were simply converted into a camper without any thought to what was rolling underneath it. If it runs, some think thats enough. And if you read, many of these old dudes have, or had, very questionable radiators. Start at the ground and work your way up.
But you'll never travel worry free. Just about the time you think you can, fate will sneak up and getcha. Complacency is the mother of all evils. Always have a plan B. And maybe even a plan C.
Hi JR! Actually I dont own a bus either, nor a motorhome......... I own a shell lol sorta like a turtle has only with great big tires and a cool sounding engine ;D But I have a blast in it, even just going to the grocery store is an adventure haha especially when people try to board it thinking it is in service lol. My kids and I get a kick outta "steel tent camping" in it too, it's much easier then pitching a tent and hauling stuff in and out of a car plus it is much more secure if a bear should comma callin or something! One day it will be a motorhome, I want to do it right and take my time. Now is an excellent time for you to be shopping for one, they can be had for much less then it costs to convert if you dont mind taking on someone elses design or remodeling. What kind of bus are you thinking about?
Don't let us scare you away JRandle!! Think about how many nuts are on here versus how many reports of breakdowns. I do admit however that in most instances when a major ordeal happens it seems to happen to someone just buying a bus. That does point to the fact that you really want to have someone that is familiar check it out first.
It is 66 at 8am going to be hot today and sunny 80. Just sucks heeeeee haaaaaw .Anyone around Ocola We are at Wilderness Rv Park. My cell # 812 449 8263 Verizon. Bob,
We are heading to a private Bluegrass Jam near Summerfield on Monday. We will be there about 2 weeks (getting everything ready, the Jam, taking everything down). We may try to stop by one day if we have time. Aren't you right across the bridge from Ray's Landing (where we launch the kayaks to paddle Silver River)? Jack
JRandle,
Plenty of trouble free trips. VA to TX and FL last year, VA to FL last week, many shorter drives to music festivals, etc. in between. Lovin' the bus! Jack, you're right on target re. the location. We're waiting for ya! Hope you have time to stop by.
Bob, I gotta go out to buy some more guacamole!
