I was going to install jakes on my 84 MCI 9 8v71N -740 Auto.
Then I bought a 102C3 with a 6v92 DDEC with Turbo and Jakes 7spd Std Trans.
6v92 has 14000 miles on a factory rebuild [documented] by DD Shop.
Idea is to put 6v92 DDEC II Turbo/Jakes / 740 auto in my MCI 9
Have the 6v92 and Trans out and now stripping ddec harness from engine to dash and battery compartment.
Have spent most of a month parting out 102C3 to pay for coach and expenses.
Most parts going to local Bus Companies. Saved many accessorry parts for my 9
Tilt steering ,remote mirrrors,cruise control,tachometer,wiper motors.etc.
Questions.
A. Am I really NUTS or just a usual BusNut.
B. What is involved with hooking up to my auto..Do I need a new modulator valve.
C. Working on remote trans oil cooler or remote oil filter situation.
D. Do DDEC II wire conections have to be at battery comp or can I just relocate to another 24V source.
E. Do I just refer back to question A
Thaks in advance to any comments.

Bob,
Yes yer nuts ! (jest like the rest of us! ;))
My main question is why not use the 102" wide instead of a 96" (9)?
And on the DDEC connection you can hook it to 12V anywhere you have it!
Yeah you read that right! It should be 12 Volts to the DDEC & ATEC computers!
(at least it has been on all of them I've worked on.)
Good luck and have fun!

PO tore rear suspension out a couple times and parked it. I heard about it and the fresh motor from my local DD shop. My 9 is already partly converted, roof raise, rear end cap, smooth skin front piece, reskinned with Pen Windows and 2 slides. Too much to start over with another coach. It has lots of candy for my 9.
My real questions are to do with transmission modulator, shortening of drive shaft,
feeding DDEC II harness into my 9, oil coolers/filters. Have a flex plate for it.
Installing cruise control and tachometer harness to my dash. I think I need a 40ft auger to make a hole front to rear.
The saga continues and chaos reigns.

OK now I understand the re-power of the 9.
Are you going to use the 7 spd or the 740 Trans? If 7 spd no worries on modulator.
And as far as wiring goes the 9 should have some unused wires running front to back from the factory & many times on conversions there are left over wires fromstuff like OTR A/C when removed & etc. (should be able to incorporate those into part of what your doing.)

I'm going to use the 740
Tx for your info, it helps

ON the modulator set up Clifford aka Luvrbus may know what you need to know! Or I guarantee he'll know who to send ya too!
Gumpy, JR or some of our resident MCI guru's should be able to assist you there.

Hi Tailbob I am just doing a similiar swap eh, regarding the modulator,If you now have a mechanical unit on the 740 which is cable operated through the mechanical throttle linkage it will disappear when you hookup the new ddec electric throttle pedal that you probably kept from the 102.I was told that a company named KDS made a simple plug and play translator for that type of conversion so far it appears that the company has been restructured and no longer make it available. The best I have found now is the Williams air unit, you may have to buy the complete kit from them which is 3 pieces an air modulator, control valve and air cylinder plus some nylon and braided air line. They have quite a selection of stuff. Allison makes an electric modulator and if the TPS circuit can be tapped there is a way to do it, too hi tech for me. Apparenly if you like you can shift the 740 manually and not need the use of the modulator and treat it like a stick and shift it manually through the ranges? Some other thoughts are the reverse switch, neutral start, jake control on the clutch pedal, plumbing the trans cooler and filter, and the drive shaft, my diff has a 1810 series joint and the trans has a 1710 series joint so that has to be figured plus the 5 speed I took out is 8" shorter than the HT740 and I will be down to a 17 1/2 " shaft from 25 1/2. Hope it goes well Regards Steve
I have some drive shaft flanges and an almost new spicer drive shaft I'd love to sell.

If you can use either one of them make me an offer. They are just sitting on my shelf collecting dust.
