Title: signal or tone generator
Post by: bigjohnkub on February 16, 2011, 12:18:39 PM
I am redoing a pd4107 that was converted in late '70s. I have a lot of wires disconnected/cut/ frayed
and other malfunctions. I need a unit I can hook to one end of wire in engine compartment, and find the other end in electrical compartment. What is the proper name and where can I get one. I found a Fluke pro3000 at a reasonable cost. Is this what I need? Thanks in advance.

Go to your local Lowes or Home depot and get a tone generator and probe.  It will be found in the Telephone section.  Where they have the jacks and cords and stuff.

In addition to those names, various other names are common - signal tracer, wire tracer, wire tracker, etc.

Here is one at Lowes for comparison.

This is the stuff that makes this Board great. I guess I'm "old school". I always did it the hard way. A test battery (12V) and the old test light. I'm on my way to Lowes.

Thanks
