I feel like a dork for asking this when I could go out and look, but it's cold and snowy out and the doors on the bus are frozen. Some one knows!
How does the throttle cable on a MCI MC-5C vintage bus work? Is there a long cable all the way to the front, or a solid mechanical link with a short cable at the back? If it's all the way to the front, how hard is it to change? When I pulled my engine I noticed it was badly frayed and I'm gonna have to fix it...

I'm not sure how the linkage is set up on the 5. But if you have to replace a bunch of stuff, I like my Williams air throttle. It might be something to look into, if it doesn't cost too much.
Gary
I'm pretty sure it is one long cable. I'll double check tomorrow.

Yea, I looked this morning. Cable from the front under driver's floor disapears through front bulkhead at back of spare tire compartment, then reapears into engine compartment and goes to governor. This is with the 6V92, not stock, but I doubt if they would've changed that cable.

Thanks very much, i guess I'll call Luke... maybe I can just change the inner. I hate the idea of trying to fish a cable that far.

I wonder if you could weld or sodder the new cable to the old one. Then grind it down so it would slide into the sheath easily so you could pull the new cable with the old one.
JC
I've done stranger things than that!
Brian
Not sure about the cable you have, but I replaced the throttle cable on my MCI9. Thought it was going to be a pain but turned out easy as pie. Cable consisted of housing and inner cable complete with ends. Disconnect both ends, attached the new cable to the old cable using a long nut, pulled out the old cable while pulling in the new cable. Pulled out from the engine end. MCI routed the cable through a steel tube from front to back. Kenny
kenny, that makes me feel a lot better! thanks!
