Title: heat question

I have a 68  MCI 5. the PO had removed the two blowers and the original ductwork.The radiator,or heater core,is still present. And viable way I can use this to get OTR heat into some of the bus?

Mike there should be a in-line flow solenoid and a pump you need these to run a simple toggle switch will do that. Then you need to open up the hot air discharge back into the bus and a cold air return to the heat compartment. Add fan of you choice and you will have heat you can turn off with the switches or thermostat. Doesn't have to be high powered fan like original just something to push cold air thru the heater coil.

Get one or two rad fans from the junk yard.  Use a J. car with a 3 little or bigger engine for the donor.

You need to plumb water to the front heater/defroster unit.  That will provide enuf heat to break the chill in the front.  You have installed a fan on the dash that you use to cool the pilot...right?  Turn it so it blows some of that heat on your co pilot or back into the bus.  I have seen a small auto rad and fan mounted in the dash and lined up with the center isle for over the road heat.

Since I have a transit with limited space, I totally removed the A/C & Heater from under the floor. I got rid of the A/C evaporator (believe it or not, the bus didn't have A/C-yet the manufacturer still installed the evaporator and expansion valve!), and kept the heater core.  I had it pressure tested and cleaned, then mounted it inside under my hall closet above the floor and washer/dryer with two 14" 12vdc radiator fans to push the air through.  I have a simple ball valve to shut off the coolant supply to it, and with the Y in the coolant line, still will have use of the defroster.  Then I installed a simple 12vdc thermostat and switch by the driver's seat.  When the heater kicks on, even though it is in the back half of the bus, I can count to 10 and feel heat at the driver's seat.  So now I have the coolant powered heater, electric heat strips in the 3 roof top A/C's and my 35,000btu/hr Atwood propane furnace, and for a quicky-just turn on a couple of the stove's burners.  So somewhere along the line, we'll keep warm.  Good Luck, TomC
