Title: Which sewer hose is the best???
Post by: txjeff on January 31, 2011, 06:26:36 AM
When we bought the bus the PO had one of the light blue sewer hoses. It was in poor shape so I went to WM and purchased another cheep blue one. It lasted mabe two trips before it had pin holes in it. So back to WM and purchase the high dollar heavy duty Rhino hose. Used it one time and into the storage bin it went. I pulled it out yesterday to drain the tank and guess what, it has pin holes in it too. >:( I keep them in a separate plastic bin so to protect them.

I was wondering is anyone else had issues and how did you fix them????

Yep, my El-Cheapo from Wally World had pin holes right out of the box.  Took the receipt back for a refund and was told "no hose, no refund".  Another trip, but it was worth it to see the look on her face.  I did rinse out the hose before I took it back. LOL  Ewww!

What Dave said but...

I too have used the rhino hose and like it a lot but connecting two sections together is sometimes a hassle.

Jeff you might want to look at your diet. one leason learned is not to stand to close to the hose when you open the dump valve. ;D ;D ;D

Never had any problems with pin holes except whenI allowed the wire coil part to rub on concrete.

Get a couple sections of 4" PVC pipe . Run the sewer hose through the pipe. Takes a couple minutes but Voilla! No more wear and tear on the hose. Works for me and I've spent a year moving from one patch of of coral (sharp!) gravel to another. FWIW.

The odd thing is the holes are not on the outter rings where the wire is, they are on the inner sides. Im starting to the think the hoses were defective form the start.

Defective from the start? Are you sure? In our new age of quality products that would seem highly unusual.

Nellie,

An even easier way is to split the 4" PVC lengthwise and just use the halves to support the flex sewer hose bottom. Saves weight and much easier to handle.

I did this after trying two different types of commercial hose supports, both do a pretty sad job.

We have been using the blueline presnfit for 2 years now and it works great, I was sceptical at first with no clamps but the fittings stay on and don't leak. This summer a kid ran over one section with his bike while the hose was laying on small limestone and there was no holes, so I was impressed. Jason

Gus, great solution; so obvious I missed it! Before I leave, I'll saw the pipe in half! But this joint requires full armor... the weedeater wackos ruined two hoses (and one electric cord) before I tried the PVC.

Jason, that 'presnfit' sounds good too. Trouble is, I haven't a clue what it is. Elaborate?

Gus,

When I got my bus it had one of those trestle type supports.  I have tried to use it several times, but find it to be a nuisance.

Thanks for the replies.
Im not sure what might be causing the holes since I only use the hose to empty the tank once a day and dont leave any waste in the hose. Im thinking that mabe another source other than WM might fix the problem. Worst case I will use a vacuum hose off a portable toilet truck. ;D

Lin,

Yeah, mine are collecting dust in the bay! They not only don't work they are great for pinching fingers.

704,

Didn't know about those, probably much better than sawing PVC but, as I remember, it was not much of a job. What I actually used was some green fibrous stuff that is probably for foundation drain systems. It is not as heavy as PVC but PVC is not hard to cut with a coarse toothed saw.

run the PVC down the tablesaw for a nice swale............any time I can I use 40 ga PVC with the rubber cuplings w/hose clamps ....I'll put a flex hose connector on the tank and it will fit into a 90 deg PVC..I have each end setups and rarely need to cut them down    .I tend to have several different lengths pipes and PVC joints,90s.45s glue and a saw handy.. used to fill in the correct leanth for the middle.....once in a great while I'll get a new 10'
