Title: Sat. Dish
Post by: Hi yo silver on January 20, 2011, 10:50:54 AM
I have a Direct TV Satellite dish and plan to take one of my receivers along in the bus next month.  There are three "eyes" on the dish, and four coax connectors.  Of course, there is only one coax connector input on the receiver box.  How do I know which of the connections to use on the dish?

One of my dishes (I use Direct also) has only one "eye" but has 2 coax connectors. I just pick one and aim the dish. The coax connectors all should go to one of the "eyes" so once connected that eye will be the one you aim with. I would just pick one in the middle and start aiming.
I would also practice aiming at home..Cuts down on public embarrassment. We had people setting up lawn chairs and clapping and booing at our steps and missteps. Embarrassing then, funny now.

fe2o3,

I'm still trying to figure out your tag. Thanks for the help.  One thing about it; It won't be any extra trouble for the fellow campers. It's not unusual for them to aleady be watching and offering "pointers" before I get to that point in my setup. LOL  Reminds me of the time at Myrtle Beach, at a beachfront house, when I was returning from an ice run.  Nearly past the house, locked the brakes up, (I was in my car) slid around sideways 90 degrees, then simply pulled into the driveway.  When I stepped out of the car, the neighbors across the street were on their feet, holding their beer in the air, cheering.  My excuse is the loose sand on the road.  I have other stories, mostly on me, but I digress.

OK, I'll aim the dish and pick a connection.  THANKS!

Dennis

sounds like you have one of the dishes with 3 LNB's (horns or eyes) for 3 satellites.  if this is an automatic system, the first of the four connectors is usually the primary, the other 3 are for other receivers.  the automatic system will use the voltage from the primary connected receiver to power the LNB (eyes) for aiming purposes.  Connect other receivers as needed, to the other 3 cable connectors.

I just bought a Direct TV dish with 3 LNBs on it. I hooked up to the 2nd from the left with my coax and it works fine. I  found out that you need a special dish and receiver for HDTV reception. So I'll live with SD instead.

Thanks Mal.  If I can just get SD, I think Marilyn will be real proud of me.  (I'm gonna tell her I figured it out for myself)  ;D
