We currently live in Reno Nevada on a couple of acres of land and the bus is right handy to work on and pack/unpack for trips. It looks like we will be moving to Las Vegas in April and it appears there is a shortage of houses with any acerage. I think it would sure be tough to have a bus and have it parked in a RV storage lot. Are there many other bus owners that store their bus instead of keeping it at home?
Our bus (1971 MCI-7) is in great shape and we don't have to do anything much except pre-flight it before trips and repair what ever small things need attention after a trip but I still feel I need to have it a little closer to home.
Does anyone live in the Vegas/Henderson/Boulder City area that could give us some insight in areas that might have housing with enough property to store a bus? We would probably rather rent than buy but Vegas Properties seem to have been hit hard by the recession so I guess if we found something that was just right we might try to purchase but just not sure what or where to look.
Any suggestions from anyone familiar with the area would be greatly appreciated. I think we will probably head down to Vegas in about a month to start looking around but would like to have some idea prior to the trip.
How about a small "ranch" in the desert? LOL. They are really cheap.

A small ranch would be great but I haven't been able to find anything on the internet. Common sense tells me they have to be available but I guess I need to hone my "Google" skills because I haven't come close to finding anything with any acerage. I will try using the word "Ranch or Ranchette" maybe.
For the folks that do store their Bus, how or where do you do the simple things like washing it after a trip any kind or preventative routine maintenance. Do storage yard normally let you do some of those type things?
Bob,
I would get a hold of Van as he hangs his hat (and other things) in the Vegas area.
Also I would check with some banks from the Vegas area to see what they have for foreclosures!
I can guarantee you there are some GREAT DEALS there!
Good luck, have fun & keep us posted!
;D BK ;D
Bob, you are going to find what you are looking for west towards Pahrump or north toward Indian Springs all the rest is some kind of Government land beware of those small ranches you may end up with the Bunny Ranch and the wife may not be impressed lol,I doubt you find anything close to Vegas or in Clark County with 2 acres unless it has a 2 mil+ house on it .
good luck

Or the "Mustang Ranch" ;)
NO good deals on foreclosures like everywhere else Clifford? Seems like everywhere I look or talk to someone banks are really trying to "dump" them! (probably so they can get more bail out $!)
;D BK ;D
Clifford
You are correct on the small ranches, the wife explained that to me many moons ago ;)
We are planning on spending quite a bit of time on the lake so we were hoping to find something on the east side of town but so far no luck. It must be something like you mentioned "government land" because it doesn't appear to be any houses outside of town at all in Henderson or Boulder City. I have started looking for horse properties and have had some luck but I was hoping to sell the horses when we leave Reno; but if we ended up on a horse property when we get to Vegas, there is no doubt we would be keeping the horses and my chances of getting a boat would go out the window.
Thanks for the heads up on Pahrump, I will do a couple of searches that direction just to see what is available. I just sent VAN a PM so hopefully he has an idea of areas to check out or maybe more importantly areas to stay away from.

Yes the Four wheeled kind! I love those FORDS! Over the years have had over 25 of them.
Currently have "project stangs" that need finished '88 Saleen, '93 Cobra R, and an '85 GT and several parts cars too!

Hi Bob,
When I first bought our coach I had it parked in a storage lot for a couple of years. It was a real pain to drive there to work on it. Of course it all depends on how far you have to drive to it. In my case it was parked in Santa Clarita and I lived in Burbank.
Look for a Realtor in Vegas, I'll bet they are hungry and will find you something.
Say Hi to Pearl!
Paul
There are lots of places in Henderson with 1/2 & 1 acre lots. I owned one (I built) with a bus barn that is in forclosure right now. They are asking too much for it ($400,000) but that's in today's market. We sold it in 05 for 1 1/2 times that then. You might also look in Boulder City. We had a 2400' warehouse with a 800' apartment we recently sold that could be a good match for you. There are more of these available right now. Don't give up the search, there are properties out there. Hal
Bob -
Another search idea: Use Google to find real estate firms in the area. Then go to their websites and see what type of search engine they have for finding properties. Look for an "advanced search" function.
When you find an office that's got a good search page, you can plug in the parameters you're looking for. Tip: if there's a "lot size" option, put in square feet, not acreage. Seems to work better that way.
Perhaps Hal or Van knows a really good agent who can help you find what you're looking for. Lots of good deals out there right now.
FWIW & HTH. . .

I echo what Paul said, "if you are going to work on it, you need it close to the home fire." We had ours in storage also, it was 38 miles away (round trip) and there was always something out of pocket on the thing. They would not allow us to work on it, nor wash it, or anything along those lines. First thing I built out here when we moved to the country was a driveway, the second thing, was the shop.
You can find what you are looking for, it just often takes a little time and effort. Hang in there.
BCO
I would check Realtor.com. You can define the search to homes on acreage or have RV parking. A lot of the older neighbor hoods, built in the 60's and 70's that were custom homes were sold as horse properties, like out north around Rancho Rd. and Smoke Ranch area. You find 1/2 acre and larger lots in the older areas. Most of the newer subdivisions in Vegas are built on a postage stamp size lots.
Bob, been busy working on the Bird, give us a call ( 702-664-4265) and we'll see what we can do to help ya'll out. I stay (when in the Reno/Sparks Metroplex area ;D) on the west side of Reno, up on Palamino, didn'y know you had horses I am an App guy myself. There have been a few horse size properties here in BC, additionally around the outskirts of town to the south, also check out the little town of Nelson ( just to the south of us), there has been a good chuck of land there, that has been listed a few times here locally, I'll see if there is any news on it. We need more bus nuts in the area, the locals are running out of things to talk about. This area we are in is gorgeous, 14,000 residents, very clean! and friendly, hope to speak with ya soon! ;) :)
Hi Paul,
Pearl gives a big HOWDY to you and Becky, she still talks about the female BusNut friends she made at the Texas Bus Rally. It sure was a great time and hope to make it again next year. Looks like we will be 400 miles closer by then.
We are checking out several realtor web sites looking for something that works for us. I think we will take the buss to Vegas next month for a couple weeks and see what we can find. I just had a great conversation with Van and it sounds like he is set up pretty well with a nice view of the lake and a place to park his bus and enjoying life in Boulder City. That has given me some confidence that we can find what we are looking for with a little time and effort. Van also gave us a heads up on a RV park right on Lake Mead where we will probably stay while we are looking for a house. Hopefully Boat Fever doesn't hit too hard while we are staying that close to the lake but I am already having symptoms.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, luckily for me I have a couple months to find something but like anything new, we are getting kind of anxious to start this next chapter in our lives.
Bob
I have a customer that moved just north of Las Vegas off the north bound 95 onto 2 acres with about a 2,000sq/ft house and paid $220k for it.
I was just there and there is a whole mini ranch section just to the east of I-15 2 miles south of Mandalay Bay hotel off Blue Diamond Rd off ramp. When going east, Blue Diamond turns into E. Windmill. Some of the streets off that have big lots (about 1/2 to 1 acre) are Giles St, Haven CT, Rancho Destino, Gilespie Rd, La Cienega St, Placid St, etc. I like the area (was just there a month ago), and it is still near shopping. Good Luck, TomC
