Title: Electrical Diagnostic manual for series 60 DD
Post by: Ericbsc on January 12, 2011, 10:10:32 AM
I need the electric diag. manual. Have the shop manual but it does not cover the electrical hookup of the engine. Anybody have or know where to get one? Thanks!

Hi Eric.  The manual you really need is called the Application and Installation Manual.  It is the bible!  Written for the OEM who is going to install the Series 60 engine.  I found mine on Ebay.  Just did a search and did not see one listed.  They are DDEC series specific.  Mine is for DDEC III but seems to work for DDEC IV as they were quite similar.

I have some wiring information on my project pages (signature) as well as information on the shallow pan you will need ($$$$$$).

How much is the pan for the 60 series Jim I checked prices for the ISM shallow pan and Cummins quoted 2600 bucks and yes I ask 3 times the guy didn't give but 4 grand for the engine you will probably see a Eagle with the deep pan lol

good luck

Clifford, I think with the all the hardware, it was in about the same range maybe $500 less.  I could check my receipts, but I don't think I am too far off.  Funny thing was that when I went to order, the counter guy was good a finding things without a part number.  I think he found three and maybe four different shallow pans for the Series 60.  They all took the same pickup, so I don't think they were all that different.  I looked at at least two (maybe three) that he had in stock and could not see a difference.  There was at least $500 difference in the cost.  The part numbers I have listed on my project page are the best price ones at the time (6 years ago).

It strikes me that you can get away with a deep pan on an M11/ISM on an Eagle, but I don't think you can with a Series 60.  On the Series 60 the deep part will be at the back.  I think I recall that the ISM deep part is towards the front of the bus.  There should be at least two Eagles with ISMs at Quartzsite and maybe as many as four.

The big issue with the Eagle is to make sure the suspension is set at the right height so that you don't have a dragging butt situation.

Clifford have you tried Dan up in MN @ ABC's used parts dept? He had several last time we checked.
(a customer of mine hired a "PROFESSIONAL" driver who backed the oil pan onto a huge rock/boulder 1st day on the job when turning around to spot!  :'( )

I found one at Acme in Ca still cost 800 bucks if he had the standard oil pan for the ISM (10 gals) it would have worked but the 14 gal on his engine hung way down

good luck

Back when I installed my ISM in the Eagle, I was quoted 1,400.00 from Cummins (about 7 yrs. ago).  The truck pan on this engine has the sump forward (to the back of the bus, making it dangerous).  So I flipped ends with the pan, which necessitated extending the pick up tube and notching out the streetside of the side of the pan a little bit, but it worked fine.  The sump was better located farther forward but it was still lower than I would have liked, although just about level with the transmission pan.  So after a few miles I located a used shallow bus pan at ABC, Minnesota for $750.00.  Problem solved.  I still have the modified pan if anyone would like it.
