When I left I had 4 images to choose from....twice the number to qualify for double vision. You would be shocked at how many groups of four Opthamologists at a time would look you in the eye and tell you that quad vision through one eyeball is "impossible". Just can't happen! Right! Now I never told them that I know which one of you guys is the real one so I do know which face to slap for contradicting me out of hand. I am their Elder, after all, even not counting my having bled for this great nation.
The guy that finally got me approved for cataract surgery hinted that I should lie about how many images I was seeing and shared that he was reporting only double vision. I later learned that as far as medicine is concerned, anything more than double is considered a neurological problem and outside the realm of Opthomology. A rare condition, but proven by multiple vision. Only half the folks with cataracts get double vision. Understand now that these are not my lies...just what I have been told. In the mid eighties I noted one clear dark night that I could see 5 or 6 ghost images of a power line that was lit up by one of those bright yellow street lights. The second time I was looked at like I might be deranged, I quit asking about that. Just before I had this surgery I got interested in eyeballs and learned that the human lens is made up of many layers, sorta onion like, and that is why we can flatten and plump up the lens to adjust the focal length and focus stuff. Now I am a scholar and have credits in high school physics and I recall distinctly that light bends every time it exits or enters a new medium. It follows to this old country boy's logic that that might be the source of those many lines cause in reality we see through many lens. I can't argue this and have no intention of even trying as I have an explanation to a problem that is impossible and I noticed that anomaly for many years....drunk and sober.
Oh well
John, cody has told me about multiple images at times that were related to his medication, his doctor has modified some of his meds and that seemed to help but he complained about it several times. We brought him home yesterday from his latest infarction, he has multiple blockages but they are in the 60% range and the doctors won't do anything until they hit 80% or more, he has to be in saginaw on the 17th for some follow up work, the doctor down there is going to try to get him qualified for a new heart but they will probably turn him down again because of his parkinsons, they only have so many to go around and they want the best survival rate possible and they just don't think his chances for long term are as good as they would like, he enjoyed the couch for an hour or so then started to assemble a filing cabinet that he was working on for jamie, some things never change, but glad to see light at the end of the tunnel for your eyes.
23 years ago i got hit in one eye with a chunk of rock at work and had to have immediate surgery. Made a great recovery, my Dr. was amazed at how little permanent damage i ended up with. About the only time i am aware of it is when i look at the moon. The lower edge of it usually is distorted/blurry and i see anywheres from 3-4 edges instead of one edge. Oncoming headlights at night also bother me somewhat and with a decrease in night vision also, i avoid driving after dark as much as i can.
Libby,
I am sorry to hear of your and Cody's problems. I must have missed something while I was "gone". Please know that you both are in our prayers.
Cody's multiple vision episodes are neurological as I make it. No surgery will ever correct that. I think they half thought that my heart meds, four blood pressure meds and all the other stuff I take were contributing to my vision failure. They weren't, as the surgery has resolved all of that. They can tell if a cataract is giving problems but in my case the cataract was an unusual type, they say, and the one they could see was not capable of causing the distortions. They finally discover the extent of my problems, fortunately.
Ed,
Good for you. I always hear about the guy that lost his vision due to some powder puff reason. Dr. once told me that even if I were hit in my "left", read legally blind, eye I could still lose the vision in my right eye due to "sympathy blondness". Even if true, the reason to share that with an eight year old has always escaped me.
Be well,
John
Sympathy "BLONDNESS" That's gooood hahaha
Your right, that is rich. OR Quit picking on the blind guy. They both work well.
I'm not going to correct my post for reasons of humore.
John
Cody has been talking about getting that laser surgury so he wouldn't need glasses but now he's hearing that they are many times past that in the technology, he's going to bring up the idea with his doc and see whats available for him, he also needs his knees done and right now his left shoulder is torn up again, seems every winter it gives out, seems that at a given age a rebuild becomes necessary, he claims he is going to start at both ends and work to the middle. Tomorrow he is taking the truck in to see about getting a chair lift installed, he dragged one of them home a couple of weeks ago. Him and jamie just hired another DJ to take over while he is layed up, I just wish he would slow down, they are already booked until into may and most of it is benefits, right now he is doing stuff for the wounded warrier program, we had some guys come back missing body parts from iraq and afganistan, stuff like that tears his heart out, young people just starting out in life and now they are without limbs. How long did it take to recover from your eye surgury and can they do multiple things at once or would he have to heal up before tackling a knee. Cody doesn't see any of it as problems, only inconvinences, or winter projects as he claims lol. Forgive me if I ramble, I'm not very good at figureing out this stuff and with cody permanently banned cause he won't sign a paper, it's been left up to me to keep up with information flow, for most of you it doesn't matter but we still have many friends that we talk with on facebook and some of the stuff they think should be posted so I try to do that.
Ed, I too had an eye injury 25+ yrs ago from when I stopped the windshield wipers on the car of a friend I was riding with. With my head as we hit a tree head-on right dead square in the middle of the front end! (made a horseshoe shade of the front of his car and the vanity plate on the front bumper!)
Anyway when my face buckled the windshield enough that the wipers hung up on my indention. I got glass in one eye.
They said it was just scratched and that they had it all out. But 3 yrs later after constant complaining a Dr. finally listened too me and sent me to a specialist who discovered that there was in fact still a sliver of glass in my eye. Of by then it was embedded and even he was reluctant to do surgery to remove it.
Upon my insistence and refusal "to just live with it, and try to sign up for disability" as I was told to do! They finally did surgically remove it.
To this day BRIGHT light hurts my eyes and makes it hard for me to see! I have to wear dark sunglasses on real sunny days and bright car lights (on coming) really irritate my eyes and attitude at night!
I can't say I have the problem with multiple images except when imbibing in mind altering substances which I have for the most part given up in my older wiser days (with the exception of a few adult beverages or 3 or 5 every now and then! ;))

Wow BK, how many images did you see last weekend? IIRC you were having a hard time typing in the online chat, maybe that was because you couldn't figure out which of those little keys on the keyboard were the right one! Just kidding, buddy.... Maybe. ;)
(Apologies to John Ed, not trying to highjack your thread.)

Mike while I admit I consumed much more than I should have on New Years Eve. It was really only my fair share, as I was the one who bought it, and there was no one here for me to share it with! ;)
Really was I slurring my words in type that bad? I didn't realize it I guess. I do know if anyone got the tag # off the bus that ran me over that night or the next morning I'd appreciate it if they could pass it along. Wow did I feel terrible on New Years day @ least until I got woke up enough to grill some brats and have a few brews and a shot of the left over reserve bottle! When man that was rough! ;)
