Found this manual (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Detroit-Diesel-V-71-Manual-3CDs-Extras-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1c18369e2aQQitemZ120665316906QQptZBoatQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQ5fGear) on eBay and was curious if it would suffice for my older 8V-71?
Billy,
Should do just fine.

Seems like a pretty good deal....money wise...

The information is priceless, no-doubt - but there's no paper here at all - you're paying over 30 dollars to receive 3 CD-Roms, which cost pennies to make. The seller might be paying a licence to Detriot Diesel for each CD he burns....but I bet he isn't.

Jeremy, that brings up a good point. Does anyone have a viable alternative?
Billy,
Search on eBay for "v71 manual" and select sort by: "price + shipping: lowest first". Plenty to choose from.

Billy -
Just an FYI - the printed shop manuals for the V71 completely take up two 3" three-ring binders. They may still be available new from your local Detroit Diesel Allison distributor - ask at the parts counter. Mine cost me $100 ten years ago. They're now packed in a box somewhere in my storage unit after moving. . .
If the CDs are accurate reproductions, consider the space requirements, and the fact that you can print out the pages you need for the project you're working on, w/o making a greasy mess of your hard copies. Plus, when you're done, you can recycle the used paper.
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
I found at least four on ebay motors a year or two ago for pretty decent prices.
I have one of those. Email me (anjalewis@gmail.com) your address and I'll send it to you. :)

A good set of manuals for a 8v71 from DD will be in the 300 to 400 dollar range with all the service bulletins over the years,the Cd's are ok but lots missing on those
good luck
lvrbus;
I have the maintainance and the parts manual but isn't there a rebuild manual also?
