Title: Radiators, One down, One to go
Post by: jmblake on January 02, 2011, 05:28:26 PM
Well I got the engine pulled out of the bus getting ready to put my new to me Allison 740 in, and now Iam working on putting the new radiators in and cleaning and painting every thing up. To be honest I don't know what was holding the old radiators up, the mounts were almost totally gone, the aluminum bottom pan was all ate out, It's been quite the job and finally got one new radiator in and putting new seals around it, I also had to notch the back wall out just a little to accommodate the bigger radiators. Now to get the passanger side done then move onto cleaning up the engine hole, Lots of grease to clean up in there. Jason

Thanks Mark, It takes longer to clean every thing up then to put it together, I can remember when I was where you are at now (I was looking at your other post) These buses keep you busy. Jason

I go out there each day and think to myself OMG this is such a HUGE project. WHAT was I thinking?
and then I look at the pics of other conversions and read these post from the multitudes that have been there and say.YEAH, but it will be AWESOME when it is liveable.

so the board keeps me inspired.

Looks real good Jason.  I had the same issue with my radiators, the lower supports were completely rotted away, only a small metal ring was left around the rubber.  I remember looking at them and thinking I could fab up some new ones, glad I didn't because the new ones looked very different than I thought they would, I had no idea so much metal had rotted away.  That greasy exhaust just gets into the paint real good, I also repainted the cavity's where the radiators go and it took forever to get them clean.  I also have to finish up the second radiator and install it, then its new alternator time.

Now I can move onto getting my new to me jakes on, the transmissions switched, the engine compartment cleaned and painted, and who knows what else Ill run across to do. I better get crack en it will be time to start using her again, spring is coming. Jason
