Title: Leaving a lite on ?
Post by: Eagle Andy on December 28, 2010, 03:49:04 PM
I was wondering if this makes sence. Up here in Mt the Bird sets for months at a time I have a 50 amp service and it's always plugged in . I have a 2500 watt  inverter charger and when the battries get below certan voltage the charger kicks on and keeps everything in good shape.

Now would it do any good to leave something on , say a set of lites or something draw down the battries. Just wondering Thanks Andy

Fully charged batteries are quite happy to just sit there doing nothing.

If the charger fails or the power trips out, your batteries will still be OK for quite a while provided there are no phantom loads drawing it down - but if you have lights on, the batteries will be flat in a day or two and wrecked within a week.

If you invite Tom Bodette over, then leave a light on.

He always does it for me at Motel 6, and its a good thing their curtains are thick, or it might bother me!

might be a good idea to leave a 120 volt light on so you can see if  and when the power goes off.
