Not looking good here in Chapel Hill either - 6 inches of snow, no chains, nothing moving on the roads, and even if the roads become clear (they are a big mess right now), not sure I could get the bus out to them. Predicted temps do not look good for melting in the next couple of days but I guess even if we were to get out of here by Wednesday morning we might not miss the whole Bussin 11 shebang, so will keep our fingers crossed and our shovels ready..

This snow seems to have been in a pretty narrow band, southwest to northeast across Atlanta - Asheville & Charlotte - Greensboro & Durham & Raleigh - Norfolk & Richmond.  I'm visiting in Alexandria VA (DC area) and no snow here yet.  Fayetteville NC is showing snow and 32 degrees; Florence SC is snow and 34 degrees.  So, if you can get out to I-95 and get to the SC border, it looks OK.  Probably pretty hard travel but maybe OK.

Good luck!

Sounds like a good week to invest in Automatic chain and salt melt Companies.
Good Luck guys, we are hearing east coast is getting at least 1 foot today, so be careful.

Although it's only 16 degrees here in Nebraska we have missed all the snow so far this year. If it's any consolation I am having sympathy pains for you on the east coast and am limiting my outside excursions to looking out the window! I do need to measure something in the bus but just don't feel up to it!

Well were here in Arcadia and the wind is cutting thru like a frozen knife. Its rocking my H model like a toy. Very cold for this time compared to other recent years. This compares to the early years of this rally when it was just as cold. I'm afraid the weather may keep alot of people away.

It's supposed to warm up considerably by Wednesday.  Should be very pleasant during the rally.

Although this may be true Sean, what about those of us that are here for the pre rally festivities? LOL Too cold even for your hot tub and too too windy!

But Ace, doesn't that mean if you were home it would be just as cold?
At least you have all those wonderful people around you!
We would be there had Payroll not fallen tomorrow for Dianne.  She has to be there to do it even if she is dead!
It is 29 degrees in Hickory, NC with at least 6 inches of snow on the ground!  Nope, I just read that it is 8 inches!
Jack
Look forward to seeing you and yours Tuesday!

Jack, if you're leaving on Tuesday, you should be fine running 77 (or 321) to Charlotte and then 77 to 26.  Once you get a little piece to the south-east, it should be fine.  Good luck.

Here in Dearing, GA we have at least 2 inches on the ground.  Low tonight is supposed to be 17 with the high tomorrow 48.  We're gonna wait until it warns up a little bit tomorrow before leaving.

for all you nuts coming south I am sure you will think i am more nuts, but after being in Florida for this past 10 years I miss the snow. I don't miss the cold and the shoveling and nasty roads but in the scheme of life the snow is just so beautiful.

Mark, look for a Flagstaff travel trailer being pulled by a Chevy truck, white.  I am sure there will still be snow on the roof when we get there Tuesday! ;D

Just came down 77 to 26. Roads are clear through to 95. The problems are the other drivers. A few flakes in the air and they were driving 35mph. We will visit Savanah tomm morning then down to Daytona. My mother in laws will be tuesday, then to Acadia on wed...

It sounds like what we used to say in Colorado when we lived there. Someone would call and say they were sliding down the icy hill. We told them to not worry there is a STOP SIGN at the bottom.

For the two of us that were going to leave Monday, our departure is probably Wednesday or Thursday. So no Bussin' 2011 for us.
Jack, we were looking forward to the rally :(. But, alas the snow has put a kaboosh on that plan.

Have a great time ringing in the new year.

Bill,
Sorry you will not be able to join us, but if you get to Florida after the rally, stop by our place for a visit.  Jack

Actually, Ace, we use the tub right down into the 30s.  Heck, if we had any Scandinavian blood, we'd use it below that, too.  Once you're in the hot water you don't feel the cold, and even a little light snow or rain is no deterrent:
http://ourodyssey.blogspot.com/2008/06/hot-tub_11.html (http://ourodyssey.blogspot.com/2008/06/hot-tub_11.html)

That said, yesterday it was just too windy for it.  I did take the time to fill it, and it was a mighty struggle to get my ultra-light collapsible hoses strung over to the spigot -- the wind tried to send them a different way.  Probably heat it up tonight, now that its much calmer.

Today, meanwhile, I need to finish working on my seminar slides...

Unfortunately I won't be there! The bus gods have decided not to make it possible!
(as a matter of fact, I'm packing tools in a luggage bay to head to Knoxville to rescue mom & dad and let them take this bus and go after their group while I stay and fix their bus!

Gale warnings out for Seattle today but it still beats the H out of the cold we left behind on the prairies.  And I've still got lots of wrenching to do to take my mind off the weather.  My shoulder keeps reminding me how much I miss that Arizona heat though. Next winter.

Luvrbus

I bet Don will not have any good old NC mountain spring water.

It has a hard time crossing the mississippie river.

I hope to make quartzsite some time.
