Title: Air bag question
Post by: jordansinthesky on December 20, 2010, 04:44:00 PM
Just curious,  my bus will be sitting with me living in it for about a month inbetween drives.  Is it better to leave the bus aired up (It will hold air for a couple weeks) or to let the air out and let it sit with the bags empty?

I would park it on level ground, so that it will settle evenly on the frame bumpers.

When I park mine for the winter, I put wood under the frame bumpers so that it stays up. I also drive it onto about 4 inches of wood, so I can crawl underneath to grease and do whatever needs doing under there.

If it is on level ground, it could settle onto the frame bumpers with no harm to the bags.

That sounds good.  But does it make any difference in the life of the bags if I do it either way?

I don't think it makes a difference. The bus will settle on the bumpers, not the bags.

Make sure that your frame bumpers are still there.  They tend to fall apart with old age ;D

some buses, like my MCI, are tripods as far as the suspension is concerned.  the front suspension has no side to side stiffness since the air suspension is interconnected side to side.  That is so that there is no twisting stress  in the chassis.  If you let it settle, unless everything is truly level it will not settle evenly and there will be twist introduced.  Some have said that has even cracked windows.
