Title: A Flooring Project
Post by: Joe Camper on December 17, 2010, 02:34:43 PM
This is the nicest floor I have ever installed and it is in the perfect bus...........ours

American Walnut 3/4 in T&G. If you thought the marble I did in my friends was nice you will like this too.

The American Walnut does make for a beautiful floor and it looks like you did an awesome job but for future reference and anyone else attempting to do their own, always try to install where you have at least 2-3 inches from joint to joint. 2 Inches is even close but try and make it more if possible! Other than that, it looks great! Thumbs up!

Yes Ace that is correct. you may be loooking at a photo where I had boards "dummied up"

I opened up all 6 boxes and went thru every piece before I started nailing.

The varied grain and color is so dramatic I wanted to make sure those pieces weren't burried under the bed or couch.

Each and every piece was picked for its spot.

Joe, isn't walnut prohibitively expensive?  Sure looks good!

Not if you install it yourself.  Everything is relative.

I feel obligated to show some good stewardship with this bus out of respect for the original converter and his level of craftsmanship and quality of materials. He did the best he could do with the best he could find. I try to do the same.

Not like we are selling it but if we did we would recoop the cost of this floor a few times over.

"The varied grain and color is so dramatic I wanted to make sure those pieces weren't burried..." Time and effort well worth it. Amazing job and wood!

Joe - Hope you understand that I wasn't knockin'.  Great job and a great look; it's just walnut has a reputation for being super-pricey.  Glad you got a good price on it.  I've done a fair amount of wood flooring in a non-moving house so I know that a perfect look is tricky and that's a smooth job.

I was not offended at all. I added some tidbits on the base of the bed to that thread.

It was almost 8 bucks a sqft at lumber liquidators
