Title: air compressor
Post by: ruthi on December 11, 2010, 03:44:00 PM
We are going to have to hook up a small air compressor to operate our air door when we are parked. We have a small one now, but it is really noisy. Anyone have any ideas, or know of one that would not be so noisy, and where we can get it? Ruthi

Ruthi, have Ken install 2 or 3 - 90 bends in the intake and run the intake to the outside that will make it quite

good luck

probably already done  this .I isolated my air door from the rest of the system when it bleeds down with a check valve. then on door side added elect air compressor. When bus air is up it is supplied by bus air .when  down the ck valve keeps the elect air compressor from back feeding into bus system.  My elect air compressor runs about once a day for 2 minutes.  low set 60lbs high 110.  Bob

OK, here is a cheaper quiet compressor:  http://www.generatordepot.us/air-compressor-4-6gallon-aluminum-quietzone.aspx

My experience is that muffling the air intake is a marginal improvement, an awful lot of the noise is from the cylinder.  You have to get a compressor that is designed to be quiet from the start.  Smaller is better too, you can match it to your air needs and maybe accept the fact that it won't air up the whole bus very fast, but it will keep the door working just fine.

I made the mistake last time of getting a cheap oil-filled compressor that was around 5.5 cfm.  It is louder than my old oil-less hot-dog compressor and my Honda EU2000 can't start it so it's useless for odd jobs.  Waste of time and money.
