Title: wheel stud question

What is the convention opn how many threads shoud extend outside of the lug nut?

Doug,
When I worked at a trucking company and Volvo came in to train us for service on their new trucks, they required 3/8" of thread sticking out above the nut.
Those were 8 lug hub piloted wheels. They also told us the Stud piloted wheels had different requirements.

Just as an aside, and to create some controversy, they told us that when the washer that was attached to the nut quit turning, the lug was at the proper torque.
Kind of like setting torque on a Ford Escort head bolt.
