Title: MCI Power Steering Line disconects
Post by: jmblake on November 28, 2010, 06:28:07 PM
I am getting ready to pull my engine to swap out transmissions and my question is to unhook the power steering line's, I think i remember someone saying they are quick disconnect fittings so you don't loose all your fluid, My question is if any one knows how they come apart? They look like big nuts, do they just unscrew? or some other way? they don't look like a airline quick disconnect that you pull and push to release. I haven't got back in that far yet and was just trying to figure it out before I do. Thanks for any help. Jason

There is no quick disconnects I know of on the power steering pump but you can remove the 2 bolts and leave the pump but the canister has to stay with the pump more trouble than it is worth to me just break the lines and catch the fluid is by far the easy way you will only lose 2 or 3 quarts at the most

good luck

On our MCI-9 the 2 lines separate below the bulkhead.  I think there are check valves in the distribution lines so they won't leak.
The lines from the pump however will drain.  Just tie them up.

Oh yeah, not quick disconnects..... just unscrew the large nuts on the lines.

Tom,
I have the spicer 4speed now and I am putting an allison HT740 in. I am just about ready to pull it out(maybe tonight) if every thing goes ok. I am going to clean every thing up and paint and fix a few other things while it is out also put new radiators in. I would love to turbo it like yours but Ill put up with what I got for power now, Maybe some day Ill repower or probably easier to just buy a bus with the engine combo I want and do another conversion. Just have to talk the wife into that one. Jason
