Title: Crown conversion
Post by: gumpy on September 01, 2006, 04:38:03 AM
I just saw this locally in Craigslist. Looks like a nice bus. I don't know anything about it, just happened to see the posting. Wish I'd met this fellow. He's not too far from me. I'd like to see more of the bus.

Wow, that looks like a really good deal for someone! Looks like the two-axle, 35' variant. They also made "8-wheel drive" 40'-ers that'd be a good conversion platform. Crown made great, bulletproof mid-engine busses for like 70 years in L.A. Most of the ones you find are in CA or the NW, so they're usually corrosion-free. Get great mileage, I've heard, depending on engine and tranny, upwards of 12-13mpg.

There's a few Crown conversions out there. Gary "Boogiecat" converted one. RC Bishop, a guy I met over on BNO, has a beautiful three-axle one. I saw a very nice red one on eBay a few years ago. I think there's a black "band bus" Crown on there now.

Thanks for the tip,
Brian
