Title: Everybody's welcome
Post by: jordansinthesky on November 16, 2010, 07:58:10 AM
Hey busnuts,  I figure this is the time of year yall will be heading down south.  I just wanted to open the welcome doors for any of you to come stay where I work.  It is the largest skydiving operation in the world, and we get a lot of RV'ers here in the winter. We are located directly between Phoenix and Tucson in Eloy Az.  I can arrange electric only hook-ups for a discounted rate.  There is a bar/restaurant, and you can sit and watch jumpers fall from the sky all day.  Oh yeah, and you can come check out my 4104 and help me on projects  ;D ;D

Sounds like that could be fun...  By the way, thanks a lot for making a young man feel old.  I figured I was one of the very youngest at 39.

Ah nuts, I was just through there in August, didn't know anything about it.  Just my luck.  By the way, I aint jumping out of a perfectly good airplane unless I smell smoke.  I also get uncomfortable being higher than say ...... a shoe box.

Hmmm.  It's 25 degrees and snowing here in Mt.  If I had a bus, and if it was running, and if I at least had the seats mostly out, and you needed a professional videographer,  I'd be there by this weekend!

No problem Teresa, that is what insurance is for!

Jordan, I used to stop in Eloy a lot yrs ago! Back when I was trucking Eloy was one of my regular places to stop!  There was a guy that polished aluminum and chrome that went by "Jimmy the real deal!" and he (and his crew) did an awesome job. I got to know him well and when he'd come to work in the AM if one of my trucks was parked in front of his place they would immediately go to work polishing the wheels and tanks and then after that was done they'd wake me/the driver up and ask if the bumpers, trailer rub rails, doors or anything else needed done. If so we'd tell them and go back to sleep if not we'd pay him and move out of the way so the next customer could be serviced!

On the skydiving note. My cousin used to be an instructor in ID and used to try  and get me to go dive with him all the time! He always told me "Come on cus, it's a high like you'll never get anywhere or any other way!" And to that I used to tell him "No way! If I want some kinda {high} feeling there are a ton of drugs out there both legal and illegal. And I ain't jump'n out of a perfectly good plane for no good reason!"
He'd always respond to that with "Hey our plane ain't perfectly good, so see now you can feel easier jumping out of it!"
And I'd tell him "Like I said I ain't jump'n out of NO PLANE good or not!"

Didn't really do my for my confidence telling me it wasn't perfectly good, or after I saw the pilot show up late once and jump straight in the plane with no pre-trip inspection or anything yelling "come on, come on, we're already running late let's go!" and telling my cousin to grab the wheel chocks on his way in the plane! Started the plane and was impatiently waiting while people were loading!
(Jordon I know this is not how all skydiving operations work, but it was my first and last up front experience! I ain't a big fan of flying in the first place, but that pilot really soured my opinion of him and the whole experience in a hurry!) But i did feel some relief as I watched them  taxi away that each and every passenger either already had a chute on or was carrying one as they got on the plane! ;)

I wasn't there to jump anyway I was just pacifying my cousin by riding out with him to watch them jump that day!

That's funny.  That polishing place is still there, and I plan on getting polished up when I get some cash.  As for the skydiving thing, I never really press people too hard.  I am lucky to work at the largest operation in the world with great airplanes and mechanics.  We have been in business for 25 + years with a perfect aircraft safety record, and I personally spent 1,000+ plus in them in the last calendar year.  I also have 1,000+ skydives.   Soooo, long story short, I think it's safe, and would recommend it to anybody, but definitely respect peoples choice not to.  But neeeeveer ask a skydiver "what happens if your chute doesn't open"  It's so annoying.
