Title: This would be bus related if you have a spa in your bus!
Post by: Lin on November 13, 2010, 08:25:57 AM
I am looking to repair a leaky PVC joint in my hot tube.  It would be very difficult to remove and replace the jet, so I have been checking out some quick-fix products.  Does anyone have any experience with these things?

A couple things to try...one, when I used to install fire sprinklers in apartment complexes we used fire rated cpvc, and occasionally would have a joint leak.  I would connect a shop vac to the system and turn it on creating a vacuum in the piping.  Then using christies red hot blue glue (a one step no primer fast drying glue) apply a liberal amount of glue to the joint area.  This usually worked very well.  If that is not an option because you can't close all the piping because of the jets, the next choice would be a 5 minute epoxy applied over the entire area of the leaking joint.  Found at any hardware store, it is a 2 part epoxy that mixes as you dispense it.  I have used it in several different types of applications to fix many things.  Works great.

Lin, maybe some of that marine sealer, suppose to work even on wet surfaces.

I was looking at things like these.  I have the Red Hot Blue PVC cement and actually have been using it with primer-- probably a waste.  Maybe that alone slapped around the joint would work if I can get around it.

Funny this will be my first post......you need a PVC ram bit. They make them in differant sizes, I`m
assuming you would need a 1 1/2" but double check. You cut the pipe next to the fitting then drill it out
with a "Ram Bit" to make it into a slip fitting again.

Oh ya.....in the process of converting a MC9.

There are several members here that have full sized whirlpool tubs in their buses.

Not quite the same, more like a full sized bathtub type whirlpool kind.

Sean,

That is a nice tool.  I could have saved the cost of it just last week alone.  I only need a 1/2". but it's cheap enough.  I just have to see if I have a straight shot at drilling it.
