The Hoover dam bypass bridge was finally opened to traffic last night @ 11:00 pm PT :D. Let the good times roll!
dommit mon ;D
Thanks for the info. we are getting ready to make our annual trip to Quartzsite ETC. from Cedar City UT. I have been waiting for the opening so we can say "been there and done that". I'm off to fuel up.
Mike you could very well be the first bus nut to cross it, be sure to stop in Boulder city if time permits would love to meet you guys and see yer bus. Coffee pot is always on, have a nice trip down.
Van& Cheryl
So Van is there a lookout or viewpoint halfway across or do you just have to drive slow?
Howdy Bob, there are parking areas (even for the frenchy ;D), the cool thing is there is a Pedestrian walkway across the bridge, very cool! I would suggest parking on the Nev side at the Welcome center (plenty of bus parking) and take the toad down to the dam, if you do we are located just across the hiway. Also there are plenty of accomidations in town such as restaurants, fuel, Elks lodge if you need to dump yer tanks and of course last but not least, us! ;D
Van
Bob,
If you have the time and are inclined, the tour is a great prespective to look at the inners of the Dam. Quite the accomplishment for that time period and construction methods available.
Gary
Just took the trip across, no checks, no stops. What was amazing is I was in Az before I even realized it. Bring it on! to get to the dam itself there is a turn off on the Nev side only right now. I took a short video coming back across from Az and will have it up shortly.
Don't know what happened to the audio, but here is a short video I took coming back into Nev this morning.

Red Ryder forget about being the 1st bus nut David beat you to punch he came from Vegas this morning to my house across the bridge and he drives a Eagle in case you saw a good looking Eagle with a C-13 Cat engine Van
good luck
We did the dam tour last winter Gary but what I'd really like to do is look back toward the dam from the new bridge. Last winter we were down the guts of the dam about halfway across at the end of a wet tunnel looking out at the bridge. Now I'd like to look back from the other direction. Something I read somewhere else made it sound like there is a walkway on the bridge - anybody know if that is true?
Yup! Pedestrian walkways on each side Bob. Clifford, nope, didn't spot em' I was to busy hugging my coffee cup ;D
One other interesting note as to the name of the bridge here,

Just in time for the dam's 75th birthday. I read a news story that said the dam is still open to traffic; from the Nevada side only.
Yes it is true, heard the same on the local news last night.
Darn it! I tryed to straighten the first video and ended up deleting, so here it is one more time ::)
