Who says Cat's don't have 9 lives I got to see some Tier 4 Cat truck engines last night they are on the way back with new engines designed for trucks,rv and buses they have a 9L,12L,14L and 16L this time it won't be a converted equipment engine it is completely new engines built in Seguin Tx just passing this on for you Cat engine lovers Mr.Gray

SWEEEEEEEEETTT
Tier refers to off road engines. Any engine used on road for buses, trucks, etc are certified by engine year. The main certification years were the 2002 that added exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), 2007 that added the catalytic converter and particulate trap, and 2010 that added Diesel Exhaust Fluid (Urea [32% ammonia and deionized water]) to the exhaust system. Cat does have to make engines that come up to Tier levels. Tier 4 will be required by 2014. And Tier 5, I believe by 2023. The rule in California is by 2023, all trucks and buses coming into California (RV's as of now are exempt) have to have 2010 engines.
Since I am a new truck salesman with Freightliner and we used to offer Caterpillar engines (Freightliner is the largest big truck manufacturer and owned by Mercedes-Benz), I think I would have heard about Caterpillar making on road engines-and the Cat rep would be knocking on our door. This is just not the case. But-I will look into it. The only on road engine I know that Caterpillar is going to make is the C15 block and head for use with International's enhanced EGR system that to date has not been able to meet 2010 emission standards. International has really shot themselves in the foot. Considering that their Maxforce 11 and 13 liter engines are based on MAN engines and not even MAN is offering enhanced EGR anymore-how do you figure? If you have stock in International-I suggest you pull out. Good Luck, TomC
TomC, I saw the engines in test trucks along with the the van with all the monitoring equipment and fwiw it was Kentworth trucks covered with the black masks they are running a 1 million mile test and they are up 410,000 miles at 80,000 lbs and I was told MCI is testing the 12L in buses surely you didn't think Cat was going to give M/B and Cummins a open check book.
The plant in Sequin just open last year and they are expanding by 300,000 sf for the new engines won't be that far to ship the engines to Peterbuilt at Denton Tx
Well then-I guess a call to our Caterpillar rep is in store this week! Good Luck, TomC
Tom;
There is a write up in Diesel Progress magazine about Cat's return to the trucking market.
Your local guy may be privy to that as of yet.
Don
Heck I heard about them up in the patch , We just took delervey of 5 new western stars that have the new DD in them and the shop boss was not happy about this new fangled motor that has mersadies written alll over it LOL S/p lol Looking forward to the New Kitties
And don't think for a minute that the boys in APG Maryland and TACOM in Michigan aren't waiting for the results of the new Kitties too.
Right! And Ford Bought out the Cummins Engine Company so they could compete with the 6BT in the Ram trucks!
Rumors are a' flyin' again!
Ine of that absolute engines I would want in an OTR truck or a revenue bus is a "Cat"! Try to by parts for one even though you have the Model, Serial # and all the Accessory numbers. The Parts guy will look at you like you have holes in your head! BTDT.
NCbob
Bob, up till 1990 Ford and Tenneco were the largest stock holders in Cummins the B series engines belonged to Tenneco made for their Case equipment the blocks were cast in Pryor Ok Ford had 15% and Tenneco owned 23% facts man not rumors
