Title: Close call - oil leak
Post by: chuckd on October 17, 2010, 07:10:40 PM
Last weekend, I went up to Grand Marais and had a great time hiking and hanging out with my dog.  When I got home I noticed that the rear of the coach had a heavier coat of oil than normal, and there was oil dripping off of the mud flap.  I have a full width mud flap in the rear.  Checked the oil and for the first time ever, it needed a gallon of oil.  Went looking for the culprit with Brian and we found the same fitting had failed again.  It is a T fitting at the front of the air compressor, located under the floor of the bedroom of the coach.  The oil leaves the compressor into a T fitting with one side of the T going back to the engine and the other side going to the oil pressure gauge (I think).  The fitting must work harden because of the vibration of the stainless steel covered oil lines.  It literally fell apart in our hands.  Going to replace with stronger fittings and re-route the oil lines leaving the compressor.  Thank goodness it waited until I pulled into the garage to fail, how often does that happen!

Very good catch,
I strongly we make our luck, good or bad, by the sometimes very small actions we take in life. Yours was being vigiliant to detect additional oil and look for the source of the leak.
Nice garage as well !!
