Title: Ac not working off inverter
Post by: dougyes on October 10, 2010, 01:38:11 PM
AC: Ramsond mini-split 115 volt 1100 watt, 9.5 amp. Inverter: 3000 watt continuous, 5000 watt peak pure sine. The inverter is connected to the 12 volt side of the master switch. What happens: If the ac is directly plugged into an outside source like my garage, it runs fine, but when its connected to the inverter it beeps and momentarily shuts off, never completing the cooling cycle. Watt's up?

are there any diagnostics on the inverter?  is it showing the load or throwing a voltage alarm?  What is the battery voltage at the inverter?  What is the battery voltage when the inverter is on and the AC tries to start?  It sounds like the inverter can't deliver enough current to start the AC motor.

How big is the battery bank/what condition feeding this set-up?

The inverter will be needing more than 95 amps flowing, 10 times the amperage at 12 volt as at 120 volt, to meet those specifications.

That will take some strong batteries, and not for very long before they are depleted, unless you have a very large bank.

happy coaching!
