Title: ...and for my next trick....
Post by: Chaz on October 07, 2010, 06:15:51 AM
A buddy of mine stopped over to see the new paint/primer job on my bus and to see if I had any mental capacity left after doing it. He looked at the back and said I should find another buffalo and graph the back of it onto the front of mine!!
HAAAA!!................. but ya know........................................... ::)

Chaz -

Nice work, so far!

Here's a suggestion - check w/ your local school district's garage part's guy, find out where he gets replacement lenses for their buses.  Head over and pick up a couple of amber 7" lenses to replace the red turn signal lenses on the rear.  You'll be amazed at how much better they can be seen!  (Heck, the school district guy might even have a scrap wreck out back you could rob the rear lenses off of!)  If the reflector's tarnished, a couple coats of bright white paint from a rattle can will do wonders, too.

One of our local districts have changed out all the big 7" turn signals on their buses to LED units - boy, are they BRIGHT!  Absolutely NO mistaking that the bus is gonna make a turn soon.  Dunno if they're 12v or 24v, because I know you need 24v for your 4108.  You'd have to research that a little if you decided on that option.

Keep up the good work, especially enjoy the progress photos!

FWIW & HTH. . .

;)

Chaz,

I have all LEDs on my 4905 from Truck-Lite.  One of my "troops" works for them and I got a significant discount, but times six it was still like $150. which isn't too bad.
They are definitely bright, and you really can be seen.  I will be moving slow, so I want others to see me when they approach.

Chaz,

I was just helping a friend with a 1948 Studebaker, and we both got the idea that it would be cool to graft the rear as the front.

Almost would look like a plane.......

Man, I'm not sure what the engineers were smoking back in the day but Stude was putting out some "cutting edge" cars!!  ;D

That is a cool Micro too! I think what Greg (my Buddy) liked about the back is the slanted window and visor. That would be pretty cool. But a 3 piece window would be a problem. I have OFTEN thought about making the old girl more "aero". I'm just not sure what would be aesthetic as well as functional. Plus, I kinda like her the way she is. But a slanted windshield and visor would be cool!!

Later cats.....

a slanted windshield and visor is cool! i like the micro bus and Chaz your paint is looking good so far. RJ thats a pretty good tip. The Silversides was converted to led's by Mike Banks and it really makes a difference.
