Title: Sat Question?
Post by: rdbishop on October 06, 2010, 09:09:39 PM
I have direct TV and as soon as I get about 250 miles from home I lose my local channels. Does this happen to everyone or is it just me?

You can only get local channels in your area. Once you leave your area, you dont have them. I dont have local, cause we travel too much, wouldnt be worth it. We do get abc, nbc and fox from the west and east coast broadcast tho.

In a word, NO! They are spot beamed and only available locally. I just tried to access their website, but it's down. DNS is available for $14 a month and by filing a waiver. When we filed it only took a week or so and they just turned on a switch so we could get the major networks on east and west coast like Ruthi. As if we're not paying them enough already! :-\

Are you coming to Branson?

This is Missy --- We are leaving Oklahoma City this morning (Thursday) and meeting our niece at the Oklahoma/Arkansas border, then heading to Carthage.  We have talked about going to Branson after the rally, but don't know for sure.  See you at the rally.

Dreamscape, do you get cbs. Direct tv told us that cbs would not sign. They said cbs is hard to get signed off on. We have cbs in Macon, even tho we still cant get it in here even with an antenna. Now that they have local available on Direct, they told me if we ever got rid of our major networks we do have, that none of them would sign off on it again. I really wish we had cbs, miss a lot of my favorite programs. I guess if we had a separate account for the bus, maybe we could get all of them. But, that would mean paying for two accounts, so thats not going to happen.

Ruthi
We also have DirecTV and get our local channels in Reno Nevada. When we travel we loose the local channels like you said. But if we are going to be set up for a week or so, I call DirecTV on the phone and tell them we are in our RV and camped out in what ever local we happen to be at and they do their  magic and we get the local channels where we are currently at. When we get back home I call them back and they put us back on the Reno Channels. I have done this 4 or 5 times and never had a problem. We dont pay anything extra for this service either.

Hey Bob, How you guys doin'? Thanks again for the hospitality when we visited Reno.
Do you know if it changes the available channels at home when you get the out of town local channels? Our son stays at the house while we're gone and he probably wouldn't be interested in local news from Clapsaddle, Utah while sitting at home in Seattle...Cable

If you have only 1 account  it will be set where ever you tell them to set the locals......no mater where the box is.............we just dumped the traveling option,$14-(after 5 years).. as we mostly travel between two docks......just call when you get in ........easy change goes by zipcode

Yes we get CBS East and West on DNS. We're supposed to be getting our Abilene station by the end of the month also.

If you have a permanent home and a wireless/airtime card or local internet with unlimited usage.....there is a way to get local channels

How does that work, Cliff?  We move around every 3 or 4 days all the time, so it would not work for us to be calling them to change it. I sure wish we could have gotten CBS.

Cable,
I just tried to look up "Clapsaddle Utah" and had no luck, where the heck is Clapsaddle? We were all over the bottom third of Utah the last few days and would have enjoyed stopping by to say hi. Is Clapsaddle the same as that place in Egypt called B*****k?

To answer your question, it does change the local channels you will have at your home address so your son would have to watch what you watch. We often have a friend house sit and it really does mess up his TV viewing as he can't stand to miss the local news/weather/sports.

   Hey, Bob..
Thanks for the reply..Yes Clapsaddle, Utah is a sister city to B*****k, Egypt. It's about 100 mi north of Cokesacker Flats, just across the border from the Creedisfur Snipe Ranch.
I guess I'll have to go to plan "B". Maybe I can get locals with the "Bat Wing"...Cable

Interesting topic. For 7 years we had local channels where ever we went with dish. This trip to TBR and Branson the first night out no local channels. I called dish to see what was going on. They said I should have never gotten local channels. They said something about FCC not allowing it. It can be done. The other thing that is interesting is we still get one local channel ( KWGN ) go figure.
