We arrived at the Durant KOA yesterday morning! Man, you ought to see this place! Top notch on any scale! Concrete level pads, which will have our DD markings when we leave on Sunday. ;D
So far we have 20 coaches here with more arriving today! We enjoyed our Cook Out last night, the Dining Room is huge along with a full commercial style kitchen! (Mike and Sonnie, At least I called it a Cook Out, not a BBQ! Are you happy now!) ;)
This KOA is the nicest we've ever seen! A great place for a gathering of bus nuts! I've already told everybody we will be back for next year!
Pictures will be available soon, so stay tuned!
Paul

It as you describe Paul, "top drawer" in every sense of the word. But they lock up the bathrooms at night, and you cannot have access until 6:30am and that sucks, especially if you are an Eagle Affectionado (sp) that is full of it (so I am told anyway). How do you spell relief?
Nice meet, a lot of interesting folks here and some great starter coaches and finished coaches to boot. Now all I need is a postcard and a bathroom and I would be all set.
Boxcarokie
We had a surprise gift from Choctow KOA given to the group last night. They gave us free tickets to see Don Williams. They picked us up in one of their coaches, not the small shuttle type, and took us over to see the show. We had a great time hearing some good ole country by one of County's great legends.
The Durant Daily Democrat also stopped by to get information on an article they will put together for their paper. It will be available online in a few days.
We have currently 24 coaches, and a few SOB's. Great turnout with some great folk!
As usual the food is great and we always eat way too much! Rod and his wife Tija, cooked up some Gumbo for last nights potluck, mmm good! Stew tonight supplied by Jeff and Darlene.
Christy and Larry Hicks arrived around 5 pm yesterday in their "Prayvo". We let them park on the back row! ;D
I'll post more pictures and details at a later time here. http://texasbusroundup.ning.com/ (http://texasbusroundup.ning.com/)

Kija and I left today at noon and arrived safely home at 6PM. No excitement for the trip. Steel tent behaved nicely only scary part was when I stopped in Road side park and opened up top hatch and windows to get breeze. Pulled out onto highway and something slammed down hard. I thought may be a strap had turned loose but I had forgotten the front hatch and at speed the wind blew it back and slammed it into roof. Closed and latched no further problems. Hope all the banana pudding gets taken care of. Can't think of when I was with a better group of people. Some great buses. Hope all are safe in the next part of their trip.

Rod, you have screwed up Don's day by telling him there were directions LOL he is ok even if he is a okie I bet he is a happy camper today with OU's win over Texas

The official count:
Eagles - 12
MCI - 7
Prevost - 2
Flxible - 3
S & S - 1
TT - 1
We have had a wonderful time, but all good things must come to an end. :'( We break camp today, some are staying over for a day or two, most are heading out into the wild blue yonder!
We have enjoyed this years rally so much. Many new attendees, with two past couples that were busless last year, brought their pride and joy! Wendy Crosby and Jim Wilkerson came in their newly acquired MCI with a slide. Their coach was built by B & B a few years back and they are real happy with their new toy. Rod and Kija came in their ready to convert MCI D3. You couldn't wipe the smile off Rod's face! He has attended three TBR's busless, not this time. They purchased theirs in July and he was biting his tongue to keep it a secret until TBR! I couldn't have done that! ;) I'm not good at keeping secrets for very long!
Then of course Larry and Christy Hicks came in their Beaver "Prevost". I was happy to see them show up, it didn't look like they would make it a few days ago. Of course we had to take "The Tour"! :D
The other Prevost from Kelso WA is owned by Wilbur and Laura Bradbury. A gorgeous coach painted by Mike Wilson. They spent the better part of 10 years converting it and are now able to enjoy the fruits of their labor. A very well designed and appointed coach. They have become great friends over the past couple of years with our friends Doug and Lori High from Vancouver WA. It was great to spend some time getting to know them. I told Doug last night that they will have to follow them down to next years TBR!
The Flxible's are always a joy to see. The Quisenberry's in their '47 Clipper, the Brannon's in their '62 Hi-Level and the Henderson's in their '61 Hi-Level. They all had great stories to share of their trip to the Flxible Rally in Ohio this past summer.
I'll continue this on another post as I'm having a hard time typing in this moving box! ???
The Eagles were well represented as most are heading to the Eagle Rally in Branson in a few days. (I cheated when I set up the dates, knowing this would happen) ;D I think Don and Yoko's Model 10 Suburban stole the show with all of the exterior lights now being LED. At night it's very well lit and easy to spot! They travel with two parrots, which I thought was pretty cool! 8)
One other note. Bob and Pearl came in their MCI, which was originally built by Bob's Dad. What a great history they have to share of his Dad's dream that they are keeping alive!
A few of us enjoyed the buffet at the Choctow Casino yesterday for lunch. Of course we all ate way too much! Isn't that what we do! ;D Then Jeff and Darlene supplied us with some great stew for last nights meal. The ladies set up some additional dishes along with great desserts! You would think that is all we do, eat!
We enjoyed a fire side chat last night, swapping lies and enjoying the fellowship! ::) A huge fire pit with all the wood supplied by KOA we could burn!
The weather has been fantastic! We were treated like royalty by the staff here at the KOA, a very clean well appointed facility. They were always asking if there was anything else they could do for us! I did inform them that we would be back for next years rally, no need to look any further.
I'll follow up later, as I could go on and on, but I really need my second cup of coffee! ::)
Hey Paul wife and I really wanted to attend. She loves to gamble so she was beggin me to go. I got down and out last week so I went to a doctor who immediately sent me to a surgeon downtown Houston. I thought I was run down from the Florida trip and maybe had the flu. After a few days I knew something was wrong and it was not the flu so we went to the doctor. Turns out I had an infection that left the intitial area of infection and entered the blood. I felt like I had been run over by my own bus. He opted out of surgery and blasted my body with meds and will do the surgery later.
Not too bad though I am up and running. The meds took only a day to start kicking that infection in the arse. I had forgotten what it feels like to feel good. So I spent the weekend pushing to finish the conversion to WVO. Today I am going to isolate the gray water pipes and divert them via valve as I am attending a 2 week school. Get this the city is paying my state park fees. I cant believe they saw the savings, it was either that or pay $1000 for a hotel.
I know this was a long post that seemed it was going nowhere but I have a point. PICTURES brother pictures. For those of us who could not attend we need the picfix.
OH and 12 Eagles!!!!!
This was our first Bus Roundup, but definitely not our last. Paul and Becky did one awesome job setting this thing up and making us newbees feel welcome. Being one of the new guys, I was a little intimidated by all the gruff looking old codgers, but that was very deceptive as everyone was really friendly and down right hospitable. As Paul said the food was great, Jeff and Darleen as well as Rod and Kija served up some great chow. We even got to take some Jambalaya home for later.
We are about half way through our trip from Reno to Texas (well Oklahoma) just a few more stops to visit some old friends from my school days here in Texas then back to Nevada. The bus is running great so far so here is hoping it continues.
Bob & Pearl
Gumbo Bob. I guess I will have to make Jambalaya next time so non-cajuns can figure it out. Or possibly this is wishful thinking or psychological warfare. Rod

We did that once, left Houston with a vent up, stopped in Roundtable Texas to get me a soda pop and thought, "Sure is bright in here?" Looked up and the vent was GONE! I think you are supposed to crank them down or something, so been there, done that, made the repairs.
Folder huh, in the words on my television hero and fix-it Guru, "Real men don't read the instructions!" (Tim Allen/The Tool Man) All joking aside, you cannot say too much about the place and the people, it was absolutely top-drawer, one of the best sites I have ever personally visited or stayed in.
For what it is worth, my own personal observation.
The TBR (held somewhere just east of the Island of Guam each year) is an exceptional event because of the diversity of the coaches there. That is what makes it so interesting, the different makes and models, and of course, a cross section of the bus community at large. Wonderful event, a definite repeater or a must attend event for first timer, if you have never attended ... You should.
Also there is no truth to the rumor that we laid out waiting on dark to overcome the Oklahoma prairie in order to style with our pimp light's and the other rumor about sneaking over and pouring a puddle of antifreeze under Wayne's bus (El Presidente) is simply fabricated and not true.
But I did hear that it kind of put a damper on his weekend looking for the source of it.
We will be there next year, with new ideas and other shiny trinkets for the monkey ... don't be late, you will miss all the fun.

We were a tad bit late attending the event as I made a few wrong turns in Durant, Oklahoma and we actually ended up out in the boonies at a highschool ballgame (bonus tho' HUGE parking lot available for the U-turn) the wife said I was lost, but that is not exactly right ... I was powerfully confused Cliff, but I never was lost.

There are four of us that have stopped at Whitehorn campground near Wagoner OK for the night on our way to the Eagles Branson Rally. If you haven't been here you are missing a beautiful area in OK. Heck, I thought it was all flat and dusty............NOT! Bob and Sandi Gilbert live in a great area full of trees and lakes. We'll be back! ::)
I hope to get more time to get the pictures organized once we return home next week. Y'all will just have to wait! ;D
Don, I don't get mad but I do get even ;D. Have safe trip home.

Paul, on your way up stop at Newell in Miami and see how the best are built, don't tell Becky but Springfield and Joplin are full of quilting supply stores and quilters lol I try my best to dodge the quilting places but it never happens I lose every time.
Sonja likes to go across on 60 more shops that route at Neosho,Monett,Auroa and Nixa trying to help you out here buddy lol

Paul,
We really enjoyed out first true rally. Sonnie made a great find the campground was excellent, and it was a nice surprise to go see Don Williams. Darlene and I enjoyed meeting the other Busnuts and looking at what they have done with their buses.
The bus ran great on the way home (no more busted hoses ;D) Haydon was feeling better so he talked ALL the way home.......Hope to see everyone next year.

The trip home was mostly slow (lot of football fans on the road) and uneventful. Did see some things worth checking out and will be going back soon. (We usually run all that in the dark) Good to see you again, tell Lynn that I will have "the instructions" for her on what she wanted forthcoming.

You can travel east or travel west, but no matter where you go .... there you is. Good to be home, I am sitting in the kitchen at the kitchen table, the wife sez to me ...."Whadya want?" and I say what I always say when I am in a good mood.
I smile and I say .... Coffee, two sugars, no conversation.
Now, don't send me any letters ... I like women, and on occasion they like me, I have no problems with the gender thing. Men are from Mars, women are from Venus ..... Deal with it. I like buses, along with the Beatles, The Beach Boys, Dodge Chargers, 53 Chevy panel trucks and Lone Ranger lunch boxes.
If this makes me strange or different, so be it.
Another thing that makes me somewhat "different" is the fact that I can appreciate any and all kinds of buses. I just don't limit myself to Eagles, I have a myriad of different interests in life, and my bus likes are included.

We just returned from Paul Lawery's TBR bus rally deep in the heart of the Sooner Nation. You can always tell when you arrive in Oklahoma, the kids start fighting, the wife gets cranky and YOU want to siphon some gas! We now understand it will be in the same spot next year and the name has been changed to ...
Paul Lawery's TBR bus rally deep in the heart of the Sooner Nation. (Pay attention people, there will be a test later and you don"t want to be lost again)

The thing I found interesting at this recent hookup (meeting) was the diversity of the coaches and the people who owned them. A cross-section of buses and people in America who restore, maintain and rebuild them. This is why I am now, and will always be, a strong supporter of mixed (model) rallies. You see everything there is to see and as we all know variety is the spice of life.
For instance:
We met a couple from Wyoming who were Italian Americans with a French dog (Poodle, a REALLY BIG poodle named Jack) and they were not in the Witness Protection Program. Some folks with a real nice looking MCI Challenger who live practically in our neighborhood here in Oklahoma. A couple of people who came all the way from Washington and another from Reno, the biggest little city in the world just off the loneliest section of highway ever paved ... U.S. 50.
We received a eye test in the casino, and it was only three hundred dollars. Walked across the room to buy a newspaper and spent another seven hundred more. The wife and I did not do all that well, we figure it is because the numbers and symbols on the wheels spin much too fast, and that leaves little time for us to "wish on them."
Is life great or what?
I understand one bus participant actually won two grand, but later it was discovered that he had "invested" three grand to do it .... Later he was r wandering back to the campground at 5am and had evidently just attended church services as he was seen muttering something like .... Oh my gawd, Oh my gawd ....
It appears that we checked in on the loser's side of the casino, but I am hear to tell you, "we held our own in the buffet section." Was invited to another participants home in New Mexico who said his driveway was an 18% grade and I would "have to back up it in order to get to his house."
I-DON'T-THINK-SO.com
The potluck dinners were outstanding. I ate some of the best Gumbo and Vegetable stew, devil eggs and home-made cookies on the face of the planet. Why not .... My doctor doesn't own a bus and he wasn't there. Even took back a little meat to Jack (the HUGH poodle) which he consumed quickly, but still remained aloof afterwards. He is hard to make friends with.
We met one guy with a 47 model Flixble parked next to me, who used to work with my backyard neighbor ... Small world eh?
(https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi582.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss263%2Fboxcarokie%2FDSC00151.jpg&hash=834142e81dcf1a377b743dd845167c7a74f7860c)
Met a really neat guy named David from deep in the heart of Texas (Lubbock) who joined FMCA back when the earth was still warm (his number is 571) and as he is a pharmacist by trade, he was able to explain to me why the sixties were so good to me .... at least I think that is the way I remember it?
Most of the meet was an "Open Agenda" type of endeavor. Like a fly at a picnic, I just buzzed around and irritated the fizz out of everyone I could find. Didn't take a lot of pictures as I left the camera at home and I am not technically up-to-speed on these new jobbies where you look thru the back to see what it is that you just shot .... In other words, old school.
It was a real "edumaycayshun" for me ...
(https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi582.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss263%2Fboxcarokie%2FDSC00158.jpg&hash=93ade5eca4528e07a6656a51ea493981d9e0fb35)
I saw my first "pink paint job" on a Detroit Diesel engine tucked into the back of Driving Miss Lazy .... I now understand that I have the wrong transmission ... the absolute worst oil leaking no horsepower engine manufactured in North America ...
(https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi582.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss263%2Fboxcarokie%2FDSC00155.jpg&hash=76b225d3a5e548a70631cd2974a1c770987b6a05)
I run the wrong tires and have the best looking wife a weird dude could ever hope or expect to have .... Even had my picture taken in my brand new jacket, with the ##%**!!#!@ tag still attached to it ... the blackmail letter hasn't arrived as of todays' mail ...
So ..... In other words, good food, great people and strange doin's. If you weren't there .... You should have been.*

Any resemblance to anyone living or dead, was most likely on purpose but please do not hold this against us ... the door lock on the bus was broken and he got out! My wife Yoko, made me post that. We knew the Kims from Moore, (i think they were in an MCI), but didn't realize you were from around the corner from us until I read the list when we were on our way back. We were in the Beaver conversion that they shoved way in the back of the park, ;) ha ha.

Our immediate plans for the year do not include Branson and we will not attend Quartzite or any other rallies this year. Regrettably, it is not in the cards. We came straight home from Texas. Branson and your rally is up there and we are down here, so geographically speaking .... it just doesn't work out.
We live 4.5 miles south of the Super-slab (Interstate 40) in Canadian County off of Banner Road, one of the last great vestiges of good community living left in
Ameri-kuh. One more trip down to Houston so mama can see the grand-babies next month, and then the bus (Daddy's Hobby) backs into the shop until spring.
We have other pursuits that are demanding our attention so the old hoopie will have to go on the charger and wait for better weather next year.
With the high price of fuel, the lottery, Oklahoma Casino's, Saving The Whales, we find it harder to locate discretionary income needed to make trips. Hell, I even wrote the I.R.S. and asked them to take me off their subscription list as times have gotten so hard.
Just today we received even more bad news, after we invested all of our money in a pumpkin farm, they done went and called off Halloween!
See you in the fast lane ....
BCO
www.boxcarokie.com (http://www.boxcarokie.com)
hahahaha, not, they didn't call it off, but this IS Oklahoma after all, which means we never CAN have Halloween on Oct 31. . .it always has to be a different day. . . they don't want to outlaw it per se (well, actually they do WANT to, they just haven't quite figured out how), so they keep moving it around to make it as confusing as possible, so that people just quit trying to take the little tykes out for good old fashioned trick-o-treating. It's funny how back in "the good ole days" when there was prayer in schools and such, EVERYONE went trick-or-treating, but now it's considered almost "heathen", ha ha.
I understand totally about not having time to go to more rallies. . just wanted to make sure you knew you were welcome. I never know for sure what to do, because I sure don't want people to feel hounded to go to a rally, but on the other hand, I do want them to know that they are welcome. To me, our little rally isn't about numbers, it's really just a group of busnuts who have been getting together year after year and having a nice weekend relaxing around the fire and swapping stories. I truly never know who's going to show up for sure until a few days before the rally, and I'm sure that's my own fault for not planning better and being more vocal about it, but it is what it is.
It WAS good meeting you and seeing you all lit up. . . err, the bus I mean. . the bus was lit up. . not you. . well, no, not you, just the bus. . .well, you were kind of on a roll there. . . but it was the bus that was lit up, I'm sure of that! :-[ gotta go, christy
