Title: Modern style mirrors for a MCI M5 type coach
Post by: Classicrider on September 29, 2010, 07:56:44 PM
Has any body with an old M4 or an M5 changed up the mirrors for the new style long arm types viewed thru the windshield. I am not happy with the old style .  What make and style would work for this, assuming mounting on the front corners, rather than on the door..
Maybe the M6 or M7 has the same round corner..
thanks guys

The best thing to do if you want more modern mirrors is to contact either Velvac or Ramco. They make many styles of mirror assemblies for buses and rv's. Not cheap though. I bought a set of Velvac brand new, heated and powered on Ebay for $450.00 retail was over $1000.00. Check out Ebay for Velvac, Ramco, bus mirrors, rv mirrors, motorhome mirrors. You may find something that will work.

Call Trina at RV Salvage, she had piles of mirrors in the new styling, I didn't check the pricing cause I'm not a fan of the hangy down mirror but she sure had a bunch of them, I would think they would be in the 50 to 100 range for a pair tho I could and often am wrong.  I bought Ramco, with the power and heat and paid 75 for the pair complete with all hookups.  Bontragers had some too but a smaller selection.

I bought a set of very nice Velvac 'stand-off' mirrors off ebay - chromed, heated, powered, double set, etc.  In all my excitement, there was never a thought about the radius of the mirror's base matching the radius of the mounting position on the bus.

In the end, I fabricated intermediate, stainless, mounts with the outside radius matching the mirror and, the inside radius fitting the bus.  That, for me, was no small task and, made the effective length of the mirror arms about three inches longer.  No doubt, the additional length will add to the possibility for greater vibration, but...

As I'm still converting (after four years), I can't say that these mirrors are going to be good or, lacking in some way.  However, I have often thought that the late style, side mount, OTR truck mirrors with power fold-back would have been a better choice and, the mounting bases are flat.

Cody,

Can you share the contact info for Trina at RV Salvage?

I need mirrors too, as my "factory" ones are so stiff that I have to lean vs moving the mirrors.

Thanks!

I have Ramco on my 5C.  I have them set so I look at the drivers side through the drivers side window, not the windshield, and the passenger side through the windshield.  They are apparently electrically adjustable, but I haven't installed the switch yet.  Flat on top, convex on bottom, which is the way I prefer it.  The vibrate more than I would ideally like.

Thank you Gents, I will  follow up all those ideas. I do know from experiance on Semi's that the remote control mirrors do tend to vibrate a bit, nature of the beast. Sometimes a little hunk of soft foam behind the glass helps.
