Title: Question
Post by: Don Fairchild on September 27, 2010, 11:29:40 AM
I have two new 13,500 roof top airs and a proheat that I bought from dreamscape that I have not even opened the box on. I know I will put those in the for sale area as soon as I can get a couple of pics and place the add. My question is about my eagle. It is a 1981 that I had trucked in and did some work on and put a new larger radiator, changed to a horton fan cluch and a better fan and a 8V71TA in. I am going to keep that engine and would like to know your opinion of should I build a 6V92TA and put it in or part out the bus and scrap out what is left over. With the soft economy and low bus pricing I am at a quandary. A little help if you don't mind

Thanks

Don

Don,

You have forgotten more than I'll ever know about buses but I will humbly offer this piece of advice. I would say that the buses most folks are interested in are eqipped with either an 8 cylinder turbo two stroke or a series 50 or 60 in them. Most guys I know with a 6v92 are complaining about hill climbing as much as us NA 8v71. There are some ridiculously cheap rebuilt series 50's on ebay.

So, if you're gonna do a 6v92 you better do the Don Fairchild "tweak" to it. If you know what I mean... Say 375-425 HP

Just my thoughts

Rick

Eagle guys don't shoot me! the point being 1800 for scrap,or part out (big or little pieces).Pieces should bring more..The salvage shell I bought was valued at 2500 scrap  .I paid 1200-have sold more parts I don't need than that off it and still have what I wanted..I like all buses!!  Bob  PS  sounds like Clifford really wants it

Series 50's are good engines-you just have to have the super soft engine mounts, and make sure you install new balancer shafts and gears-and it will give you good service.  Good Luck, TomC

If the torsilastics are good how much are they worth?

Niles, they are worth about 2000 grand each if in good shape the problem is not much demand they last forever in RV use.
A 3:33 rear gear will bring him around 2 grand  the drop box will bring him around 2 grand the rest is what ever somebody wants to pay

If you take the tag springs out make sure you mark what side they come out of. They won't last long if you put used ones on the other side. The rubber is use to being wound one way and if you switch sides they will not last.

Good Luck Wayne
