I can't imagine why it didn't dawn on me until this summer after I had my left hip replaced but here's my story:
We've had our MC5A for 4 years now and I had the engine pulled in the first summer for a new clutch, Jakes and some other work. One of the items which caught my eye was a broken hose to the clutch assist cylinder which Dave replaced.
This year we lost the gear box on the way north (fortunately only 24 miles from home) so I had the bus towed to a heavy equipment shop, found a used tranny and had it installed. Typically the shop didn't do a linkage adjustment after reinstalling the engine but I had someone do it for me. As an afterthought I asked him to check the flow valve in the line to the air cylinder and it was closed.
The next day I started the bus and with some trepidation I pushed in the clutch and shifted into low gear. Much to my surprise it went to the floor with very little effort on the new hip and sore muscles.
Could it be that I've been driving this beast for 4 years without the air assist? Yep. I don
't know if that makes me dumb or stupid...I always figured dumb could be taught and as for me I guess it just takes a little longer
I will now happily drive the bus with a clutch that disengages like soft butter!

Naw Bob, it aint dumb and it anit stupid...maybe just a little 'brain-fart' involved! Not much, just a little!LOL
But aren't you glad you know it now?
Bob, when we stop learning, they start tossing dirt on top of us lol.
Did that on my motorcycle a couple of times. The wife finally started saying "turn the gas on dummy" every day as I left for work.
I drove a manual steering bus for 5 yrs. before a real mechanic "burped" the slave cyl. Now I can steer with one finger. If I'd known that when I bought the bus my arms would be the same size...Cable
