Title: Motion windows on order!!! Anybody got a crate?
Post by: grantgoold on September 23, 2010, 10:40:16 PM
::) Ordered my Motion windows for pick up in 4 weeks. Anybody got a shipping crate laying around in N.Cal or Oregon? Five windows in total will make sure I get lots of pictures to share!

Wish me luck!

I just had 11 windows delivered to my door all crated up and safely transported to me without damage.  I highly recommend you let Motion Windows crate and ship your windows to you since they have years of experience in shipping windows.  If you had seen how they packed my windows, the $150.00 or so that they charge is well worth the money, rather then you trying something that you've never done.  Good Luck, TomC

We received our driver and passenger side windows from Motion Windows 2 weeks ago and they were crated very well with no damage to the windows. If you are going to pick them up, why not just install them into the bus there or have them installed there? If you aren't taking the bus, maybe they would give you the dimensions of the crate needed to hold the windows and you could build your own. If you build your own crate line it with something soft and take along something to place between each window. They charged $105 for crating and $148.45 for shipping to Minnesota. Considering your close proximity to their location I can see why you will pick them up. It wouldn't have been practical for us but would have been a nice trip and interesting to see how the windows are made.
Good luck, Sam MC8

The crate that my Pen windows came in had more than $100 worth of lumber and packing material if I was to go to Home Despot and buy it...

I'm just sayin...

;D

Doug1968 also bought windows for his MCI 102A3 recently. I'm not sure if he still has the crate, but you might PM him and find out. He's from Vancouver WA and I went with him to pick them up. Motion does do a great job in building their shipping crates.

I agree that the cost of crating is minimal to protect your investment while in route.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the posts. I appreciate the input. We have decided to make a fall vacation trip to Vancouver to pick up the windows. The family time will be great. We are taking our old windows and within 6 hours picking up the windows with their new sliders....

I have contacted Motion to determine if each window gets individually wrapped and then I will get working on securing a crate. I need to build one to get the old windows up to Motion as well.

Thanks again,

Grant

Pauls windows didn't get crated cause we wanted to make sure they enjoyed the cross country trip lol, I'm probably going to be heading for bontragers in december cause I've got a doctors appointment in saginaw, they may go after my extra brain then but anyway we may have room for windows if anyone cares to let me know at some point closer to that time frame, as mentioned in the past what I get are new and made by Hehr, insulated tinted sliders with screens sized to fit the opening, I pay between 20 and 40 for them each.

If you are going by Motion Windows with the bus, have them install the windows!  I drove up with my bus to have six large, two small and the drivers window installed.  They allowed me to help and it was done in one day.  Then you're assured of proper installation and no need of packing in a crate.  One day-and its' done-how long do you thing you'll take?  Good Luck, TomC

I had my 6 large windows installed by them. Well worth doing it at the factory, it would have taken me a lot longer to do it by myself. ;D

Grant,

I sent you an e-mail. I have the Peninsula crate that six of my windows came in. I'm not sure what size windows you have but this crate is pretty large.

You are welcome to have it and I only live about 5 miles from Peninsula. Give me a call and we can make arrangements.

Doug

Grant ;
Look on Craigslist for pallets. Any time we need a crate we would get them in the free section then take them apart and build crates to fit if we knew the size and if we didn't we would make them with one end open  and a little wider than we would probably need and close all the other sides. Take a battery op saw, power screw driver and some screws etc., cut it to size & thickness you need it and pack and close on site. Bring blankets, bubble wrap or moving blankets.Other than your time the wood is free. Sometimes moving companies or even the Depot will have pallets they have to get rid of. I have a air stapler if you need one, Shoots 1" and 1-1/2". FWIW

Peninsula quoted me four weeks to shipment from order but it took closer to six or seven weeks before I got them.  If you are planning a vacation to pick them up, be wary of the delay factor.
