Title: 4905 Airbags
Post by: 3408cat on September 22, 2010, 05:28:17 PM
Hi, I have a front airbag on our 4905 that is leaking. I have changed bags on trucks and trailers before, but I do not see the air line going to it. Do I have to remove a panel in the floor or something to get to it? Is there any other bags that will interchange with the ones in it - Goodyear AS4-18-3-000 ?  What would be a fair price to pay for bags and shocks ? I have good blocking and jacks to do the job safely, (just to get that out of the way). Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Cat,

The airline feeds into one of the retaining studs on the top of the bellows. One of those studs is larger than the other and is hollow. Shouldn't have to remove a panel to get to it.

Firestone part number is is W01-358-5406. Gm number is 665622. Mohawk lists them under that part number, superseded by # 662743, for $105.95, but they're showing 0 in stock. I bought one through the local Kenworth dealer a couple of years ago and paid about that IFIC. Shocks should be $35-$40 each.

Luke had one in stock for Eli's 4106. He included the special nut for the stud that the air line connects to.  I would give him a call.  Luke's number is eight five six 794 thirty one zero four.

I don't know if everyone ships them as a complete assembly, but Luke did.  Bellows had top plate, bottom plate, and piston.  All that is needed is to bolt it in and hook up the air line.

Good luck

If I hit a really big bump, sometimes there is a clunking sound from the side with the leak. I have checked everything and nothing is loose and the tire wear is normal. The noise started before the leak, the bag is dry rotted. Could the noise have to do with the bag/piston ?
