Hey all,
Got the compressor in last night and that is not a job I would recommend to my worst enemy. Let's just say really awkward and really heavy and leave it at that shall we?
So here is my problem:
When I removed the old AC unit I took pictures on my phone of the wiring so i would be able to wire it back up the way it came out but I dropped my phone and had to get a new one and couldn't transfer my photo's so I lost my point of reference. Here is where it get's interesting, The new compressor has a whole lot of hi and lo pressure switches on it but it all comes down to a two wire connector. So, all that wiring to all those switches eventually wraps itself into two wires. I thought that my last rig had a wire to the clutch and a number (maybe two?) of wires to the compressor.
So how do I troubleshoot this. Keep in mind that I have the electrical knowledge of a small soap dish
I also broke one of the pressure switches on the unloader or center head and I don't think the one off my old compressor will work as they have different colored wires. I am assuming that they are different colrs for a reason correct?
I am in way over me head here boys. Where's Gumpy when I need him??? Out shooting animals that are bigger than him in Montana. Who does he think he is taking off when I'm working on my bus??
Just kidding Craig, safe travels on the way home buddy and you can't help it that you're a wiring genius.
Rick
Rick,
I extend my condolences ;D. I really do ;).
I know what you mean. I have swapped out those compressors before. Not fun. Those wiring issues can be so tough. It is too bad that Gump is out of town.
Enjoy ;D.
God bless,
John
Hi Rick,
Don't worry! It's pretty simple...
Think of the pressure switches as "in line" .. In one side and out the other.. to continue current to the clutch.
The colors of the switches are not important.. All you want to do is complete the curcuit.
Put your ground side of your two wires right to the clutch. Then run your hot wire through the two switches
"in and out" then onto the clutch. If either of the pressure switches open due to abnormal pressures, then the
clutch will stop.
Hope this makes it easy for you!
Good Luck
Nick-
Nick thanks so much for the help I really appreciate it and it says alot that a pro like you can dumb it down enough for a guy like me ;D ;D
There are quite a few switches and the guy at C&J said some are if you're running 134 and some are for 22 freon's.
I'm tuckered out for the day so I'll try and get this thing hooked up, evacuated and charged up on Friday.
Thanks again,
Rick
