Title: Power steering oil
Post by: busnut104 on August 25, 2006, 04:00:29 PM
I worked on my power steering many years ago and did not make note which oil I used. I think I put hydraulic oil but not sure, well I blew a hose I don't think there is much oil left in the system, I would like to use 15-40 this time, question will it hurt to mix the hyd. and motor oil. I don't think there is much oil in the system and I really do not want to try and drain it all out if possible. I have taken a sample to several people and no one call tell me what it is.

Hi busnut104,

What kind of fluid did you decide to use for this?  I didn't catch what kind of bus you have.  If you are still deciding, maybe you could post what kind of bus you have & the year as someone may have 'da book' on that model to give you your answer.

akbusguy2000, nice reference - thanks for posting!!

Kind Regards, Phil

I took a glass jar and mixed some hyd oil and 15 - 40 and I let it set for sever hours and it seamed fine and did not seperate, so I filled it with 15-40, I guess only time will tell.

Interesting oil test.  I hadn't thought of that.  Thanks for posting the follow up busnut104.
