Thought I might share this with everyone. Yesterday I posted about a friend that blew a water pump hose I decided
to check some of mine, I have had a few drips now and then. Put on some new band clamps, still dripping. Took the hoses
off and found that they had cracks on the inside seeping out. Has anyone Else had this problem before? Not a big deal but
it will put you on the side of the road!
My 2 cents worth!!!!!
Steve 5B...........
I had a silicone hose crack right under the hose clamp where it was very hard to find. We simply thought the hose and clamp were not aligned properly, but we finally pulled the hose off and found the crack.
A couple years ago I had to repalce the water pump. While the cooling system was drained and I was waiting for the new pump to arrive, I decided to to some preventative maintenance. I replaced every hose and clamp in the engine compartment. Some of the hoses i removed looked like they had been on since the bus left the factory. I now drive, pretty confident that I will not have a hose problem. Cost of hoses & clamps=$$$, Peace of mind=priceless. Jack
Steve, my pm involved changing the hoses every 5 years regardless never lost a hose or even carried spares you blow 1 hose they rest are waiting to go never could understand that about some people waiting for a hose to blow that hose on the top of the water pump on DD is not easy to change on the side of the road lol
good luck
One good check is a quick squeeze (when cold) for softness, this is a sure sign of imminent problems.
