Title: Some input needed on air throttle and cabling to the front
Post by: Paladin on August 29, 2010, 01:38:09 AM
Ok, I'd like to make my bus air throttle ready for the future, I have the air line (Yes, it's D.O.T) and the rest but no hardware yet. How have others routed the stuff from the engine to the throttle pedal with minimal mess and intrusion? A nice clean, hidden installation. What type pedal have you used? That above floor mount or recessed one I think it is?

Now, the other thing I've been pondering is how to route camera cables, power and other to the dash area with as little clutter and mess as possible and with organization. It seems like routing it around the drivers side past the other wiring would really make a mess and complicate things. Under the floor through the spare tire compartment and up via a hard conduit right at the forward most point or as close as possible might be an option but I've not really thought too much on what that might entail or what I might be doing with the spare tire area, carry? No carry? Convert to storage? Not on the radar right now but still needs to be considered. I can't imagine a conduit up high in there would be much of a problem.

I already ran a 2" rigid line down inside the return air tunnel in the isle from the engine area to the drivers seat but it has yet to terminate anywhere, haven't figured that out yet for sure. It would need to turn down under into the spare area or turn to the left side area or it's just going to come out right through that step up.
Haven't figured out a way to drop them down from above like between windshields or along side pillars , that doesn't seem very good to me.

Best thing I guess is to see how others routed camera cables to monitor, various power, future gauges and other things.

Ideas? Tips? Any input from those who have tread before me is really appreciated!

-Dave

EDIT: For those who don't read my sig or already know, we're talking an MCI-8.

For what it is worth to ya :)

I plan to run the air line for the air throttle down the heat duct on the left side of the bus.

The harness for the stone bennett electric shifter as well as the rear camera harness will all run in the same housing.

I like the idea of having it all inside protected from the elements.

I already have a panel under the bed that all the cables and lines will enter the engine compartment thru a rubber hydraulic grommett.

I also have going thru this panel two heater hoses that feed my webasto heater as well as the side arm heat exchanger that heats the water heater as I drive down the road.

My only concern is I have a "williams  "air throttle and they typically have the feed below the floor. ( so The air throttle might end up below the floor.)

I have been considering looking for a "air throttle  " that has the fittings in the bus at floor level as opposed to below the floor. Not sure if they exist in the bus world but the equipment industry must have one above the floor.

I think your idea for running the lines inside is  good :)

can you use some of your old factory ac pipe chase to go at least over the rear wheels to the forward bay? I don't know 8s but seems to me the last time in my engine rm I thought i saw a couple of empty 1" copper pipes stubbed off at the fire wall bulkhead.....I wonder if this is even a straight shot or not?
