Title: Rimless spare
Post by: eddiepotts on August 28, 2010, 10:35:19 AM
I have found a used tire for my bus. From what I have read and talked to people about is if I bought only one new tire it would be a diffrent circumference than the old tire so it would be holding more weight. So for $75 i can get a used one about the same tread depth and it would be equal. I can't buy two new tires right now to match diameters. I guess what my question is will the roadside insurance cover changing the tires on the rim or will they only change good rim and tire for bad tire and rim. I was thinking of buying two used just to have a loose spare if the change them.

Eddie they will cover the most expensive part for sure! And that is getting the service truck out there and the bad wheel and tire off the bus and a good one back on!
I think most will cover changing the tire too. But if not the service call is paid for and you might have to pay for a dis-mount and re-mount at most $30 +/- depending on the area and such!

My understanding also is that emergency road service covers mounting a tire on a wheel so I plan to just carry a spare tire without the wheel.

This saves a lot of weight, a filled tire and wheel are HEAVY!!

What gets expensive is when the road service has to find you another tire to match a bad one.
