Title: Early winter?
Post by: Ed Hackenbruch on August 20, 2010, 07:50:35 AM
We are in La Pine Or. at an elevation under 5000 ft. We have had frost on the jeep 2 mornings in a row now. Makes me wonder if this year will be a harder and earlier winter than everybody had last year.  I mean come on, its still August!  Jim Shepherd lives at 7200 ft. and says that he hasn't had frost yet.  Time to resume our trip south i think. ;D

It has been in the 80's during the day and even as late as midnite is still quite nice, but between then and dawn the temp has dropped. :)

Still hotter than blazes here.  It will be in the high 80s tomorrow with a dew point near 70.  The temp isn't so bad if the dew point was low.

No Gary, we are slowly headed south for the winter.  Only got 3 days of work this summer and the season is getting too short to get any more this year, so we said the heck with just sitting around anymore and figured we may as well do a little wandering on our way back to Yuma. Maybe we will see you this winter? Yuma or Quartzsite?  Clifford, been watching the temps there, looks like you guys have had a mild summer? Seems like everytime i look it is about 10 degrees below normal?  Just keep telling yourself that it is a DRY heat stroke!  ;D

Hey Ed, I used to have some property in La Pine. I really wanted to retire there, gorgeous country.

Be safe and stay cool/warm where ever you are!

Over 100 here to day. I'm ready for winter! ;D

The run to the sun we made a couple of years ago was the high point of my life as I remember it so far, we want to do it again and hit the road full time again but for now we can't, we've initiated legal action against the doctor that poisoned libby, we kept it low key while the initial work was being done but now it's mostly in the team of baracuda's hands that we hired, they are very good lol.  Jamie has about 2 more years of school left in her own doctor program then she will have to leave the area for her graduate work and once again I think we'll be free to travel at will, then I won't care if winter comes early cause we'll be out of the snow belt and wandering around irritating people. (be warned, the white iggle could be bearing bad tidings lol)

Do you really think that you can give up the 4 seasons?  You know,  spring on tuesday, summer on wednesday, fall on thursday,...... and winter the other 362 days? ;D

Our 4 seasons up here are 'early winter, winter, late winter and getting ready for winter.'

last week i was thinking the same thing.  nights in the mid 50's to 60's, days in the 70's.  we were near Rochester, NY.  Now that we are unplugged and boondocking in Oh near Cleveland, it's mid nineties, then low of 62 tonight, 93 tomorrow, 65 at nite, and so on.  hope we can run that genset for less than the $35 for a 50a campsite ;-).

i don't think winter will come early or be that bad this year.  last year ft. myers was freezing.  i hope not this year.

I'm in Alaska and we hope that summer comes on a weekend.  Not this year!  31 days in a row of rain.  June ane  July both rainy.  August maybe 5 days descent days.  The leaves started turning 3 weeks ago and we have full on fall here with fall weather.  The geese started heading south about 3 weeks ago too.  Hope we can get down before the snow falls.  Also we had snow flurries last week by Fairbanks.

Yes it looks like early winter from here.
