Title: Allison HT740 ?
Post by: bryanhes on August 15, 2010, 01:02:44 PM
Anyone know what a Modulator, shifter and cable would run for an HT740?

Thanks,

Bryan

The shifter is Felsted 55056.  I have one if you need it.  The Maxx Control (Morse) number is 301414 or 301416 depending on whether you want right or left mount and assuming you want pull back to reverse.  These are numbers for t-handle type and are for the basic unit.  There are a couple of numbers more depending on things like switches.

Bryan , I just put an air throttle on the Eagle and I have the peddle , the cable and the modulator and cable . I still have to take out the throttle.

Thanks Andy & Lin. I will let you know. Just looking at an Eagle that has a 4 speed and wanted to see what it would take to put in the HT740.

Easiest way to swap out the manual for the HT740 is to use an air throttle.  Then you can use an air activated throttle modulator and not have all that extra tension on the gas pedal from it being all cable/linkage operated.  I have an air throttle on my transit bus with V730 transmission, and it works very well-albeit it does have a bit of a lag of reaction time-but you also get used to that.  The best part is the lightness of the gas pedal-doesn't tire your ankle out.  Good Luck, TomC

Hello;    Depending on the year of the coach and the engine which you did not mention ; you may need to change the bellhousing also. When I changed the 4 speed in my 1972 8v71 to an allison 740 I had to replace the bellhousing.
if you have to buy the cable it will be around 500 dollars . Better to find a used one if possible
I do have all the parts required for the change including transmission, cable, shifter, bellhousing, and flexplate.  My setup had an air throttle which worked very well for me. Please email me if there is any interest.
FWIW    regards and happy bussin
