OK I have a 45 footer, standard insulation thruout, I live in southern az, this is where I plan on using it, I like it cold!
can I intall a residential type airhandler in the basement and duct ito a over head distribution system in the bus?
if so how many tons?

You may only need 1 ice cube is you had enough insulation.....LOL
You said you have all the origional insulation, so the largest system you can possibly fit woud be just enough!

Residential air handlers and condensers are huge. Side discharge condensers are not nearly as common as top discharge. It won't be easy to get proper airflow for the condenser. You will also need 220 volt for pretty much any residential air handler/condenser combination. You will need a 50 amp connection or a generator to have A/C. Most smaller/older campgrounds either have 30 amp only or limted 50 amp service.
Mini-splits would probably be better as they have 1 ton units that are 110 volt. The condensers are also smaller.
I seriously considered mini-splits until I realized the amount of space two condensers would take since I wanted to stay with 110. I decided in the end to just do 15K BTU rooftops.

Left San Diego and came back to L.A. with two out of the three roof tops running today. With 2.25" insulation and light tint on the windows, was 70 inside and 95 outside where I stopped for lunch. Personally, with a 45 ft'r with just standard insulation, I would run 4-15,000btu roof tops. No such thing as being to cold. Good LUck, TomC
