Title: Stone Bennet Shifter
Post by: Bill B /bus on August 11, 2010, 12:08:27 PM
Background: Transmission is an HT70, 6 speed with one overdrive. Transmission has four ranges, 1/2, 3/4, 3/4/5 and 3/4/5/6. Normal start is 3 gear. Range 1/2 is for slow and/or heavy going. I had installed a five position Stone Bennet shifter, electric over air 12V solenoid. Worked fine but I couldn't get into the 1/2 range without getting out and disconnecting the linkage. Found United Transmission in CA that would rebuild the shifter to a 6 position unit.

Problem: Shifter will properly shift the transmission in one direction R-N-3/4/5/6-3/4/5-3/4-1/2. But will not return. One side appears weaker but feel and touch. Bar moves but won't pull to next transmission detent.

Solenoid coils both measure 13.7 ohms. Bench test coil drew 0.76 amp at 13.8 VDC. That agrees with stated watt rating of 10.7 W. Verified that both valves are tight into their seats. Tech would did the changeover is out with an injury. I am thinking of increasing the orifice from valve to cylinder. This will increase the amount of air, and pressure entering the cylinder. Hopefully this allow the ram to achieve the next transmission detent.

Thoughts/ opinions and suggestions are welcomed. I am about at my wits end, some would say that's not a long trip, and could use some help.

Thanks,
Bill
