Title: Shorty Prevost on an adventure
Post by: chuckd on July 26, 2010, 09:44:38 AM
I have a friend named Brian, who became my friend because of his work on my trucks as a mechanic.  Besides being an excellent mechanic is a good man in the truest sense of the word.  Well when I got back from last weeks little mini rally at Bemidji Mn, I offered to let him use my bus for a vacation he was planning for this week.  After a tour by his wife, he decided to take me up on it, and he left last Friday.

At about the Cloquet Mn exit he was watching the oil gauge and all of a sudden it dropped to zero.  He immediately pulled over and went looking for what might be wrong.  He got to the back of the bus, and the rear of the bus and his toad (Saturn) were covered in oil. He looked under the bus and could not see anything.  He had his wife turn the ignition on to help him look.  He finally found the leak after taking off the carpet in the bedroom, looking into the engine compartment and saw that the oil line to the air compressor had broken off at the fitting.

Brian was able to go into town with the Saturn, and find enough parts to fix, and about 5 hours later were on the road.  He had lost about 2 gallons of oil.  (I carry 4 gallons with me, so that was not a problem).

If it had been me in his situation, would have been a tow, and overnight waiting for service!

They are now in the camp grounds in Grand Marais Mn, the bus is parked right were most people walk by on their way to town, and he said that about 20 people had commented about it, already this morning.  He is so ready to be a busnut.

Lessons learned, tool box, extra oil, and knowledge are good things.

Wow.That could have been serious. So glad you picked such a good mechanic to loan your bus to. That takes courage, but says a lot about his character for you to trust him that much.

Was good to see you again this week. Let me know how your heater project works out.

Hi Chuck,
I'll second that opinion!
Did you and Sam get that AC breaker situation figured out?
Great meeting you last weekend.
