Title: Budget Graphics
Post by: Lin on July 25, 2010, 07:39:17 AM
Our blank windows were not skinned over.  Instead, there were fiberglass boards fitting to each of them, glued in, and painted black.  That must have been quite a number of years ago, and they were looking somewhat poorly.  So we decided to remove them and replace them with a panorama of our home town.  A neighbor does this kind of printing on vinyl or canvas for about $6./square foot.  I could have told you we used mirror vinyl.

Nice looking Lin!   Large digital format is amazing stuff!  Another new idea well done!  I came back Lin, are those on the inside of the window or outside?   If they are outside they make a clear UV protective film that will make your graphics last much longer!   Just a note!

Where did you get the image from? If it was supplied by the people who did the printing I'd be interested to see what other 'views' they have available - or to know where else  files can be obtained for this type of high-resolution panoramic image.

Jeremy,

That is a stock photo off of http://www.dreamstime.com/. (http://www.dreamstime.com/.)  You do not need to sign up to search.  It just happened that the guy that did the printing had licensed that photo which he uses for bumper stickers and mounted landscapes he sells to tourists here in Joshua Tree.  As I understand it though, non-commercial users can download the images without a license fee.  There may be some nominal charge.  There are other websites that do the same thing.  Even some that specialize in panoramas.  We have not yet picked what we want for the other side of the bus.

Interesting, thanks. I've just looked on the stock photography site I often use for my work, and it turns out they have panoramic images too. It'd never occurred to me to look there
