this is going to be interesting question. But, I have a leak in my reduction gear box on my air box (fans) I have witnessed several of these being removed with much work and cussing. Has anyone used instead of oil a good quality grease?
Those are oiled from the engine the 1/4 inch tube on the rear is the supply then it dumps back to the engine at the front I have no idea what you are calling fans
good luck
I think he means the fan drive gearbox for the engine cooling squirrel cage fans?
Why would he post 8v71 air box blower ? this one is not real clear to me lol
OK squirrel box fans that blow air sucked through the radiators onto the engine. And no they are not oiled from a tube. The seal is leaking and these can be a real pain in the a-- to remove, blower fans and reduction drive gearbox. I hope that clears up what I called air blowers (they do blow air) sorry about that....Can anyone answer the question I posted?
yea they used gear lube for a reason inclosed gears in a mitre box don't get along with grease
good luck
:-\ well shucks I guess I will have to keep a real close eye on the oil level glass..thanks
There are some snake oil seal conditioners that will swell up the seals & may slow down or even stop the leak for a short time - if it is a seal leak.
Might help with the leak until you can fix it properly.
Kyle I tried diesel fuel trying to swell the seal, no go. It is not major but if you don't check it and add oil @ fuel up you might have problems >:( It is a major job to just get the fans off the shaft on a bus this old..... :'(
Usually, the liquid mechanics don't do quality work anyways. ;)
::) ::) no but they work cheap.................. ;D
The mess being blown around by the fans can be called rust proofing.
Call it a day?
happy coaching!
