Title: 4106 Oil Hubs
Post by: Madmike on July 23, 2010, 05:07:19 AM
I was driving my bus yesterday and it seemed like the left front hub was making a sound. The only word that I could form to describe it was dry. How do you check if there is oil? Does it come from one central tank or is there one on each hub. I could not see any thing leaking but I would like to be able to check it and fill it as needed. I have all the parts manuals but it does tell about the wheres and whys.

GM 4106 has grease pack bearings.  Front and rears. Unless someone before you change them to oil.
There is a cap at the end of the hub you remove and add oil. There is a oil full line. If you have a maintenance manual check it. Check sec. 13 and 19 .

After a good run down the highway, put your hand on the hub. Anything more than luke warm would indicate a bad bearing. Compare with other hubs around the bus, they may be a little hotter on a hot summer day.

I will take off the cap on that side and give her a look see. If the bearing do need to be repacked does any one  know where I can get a set?
