OK folks, I am supposed to know about engine conversions ;D, but I don't know squat about Prevost buses.
I have a good friend (does not feel comfortable with the internet) who has a line on a great Series 60 and he asked me how much of a job it would be to swap out (has 8V92 now). I went over the gearing issues, all of the fabricated parts, electronic conversion, etc.
What I don't know about the engine compartment space. As I recall, later years of this model had Series 60s from the factory. He said that he had heard that it makes a difference if it was a seated coach vs a chassis for conversion (his was seated).
Do you have to do a bed raise? Is there enough length for the Series 60 and an HT740 (World would be shorter)?
He is a fellow who always likes a challenge and I think he has the talent to do the conversion. However, I pointed out that he already has a good engine in terms of power.

Jim I have both setting here now will try to measure tomorrow..there is a problem with the tag clearance in the models designes for the 8V92 if someone is placing a 60 series in them..Hard Headed Ken is doing one now..he would know the answer....Bob
Tag is an issue with this one. If I were to do it I'd build a new tag-a challange but I dare say possible. Hal
I know Prevost made two different wheelbases-one for the 8V-92TA and the other to accommodate the longer Series 60. It is easy to tell the difference, the longer wheelbase for the 8V-92TA has no space between the radiator (on the left side) and the wheel skirt. The shorter wheelbase for the Series 60 has a space between the radiator and the rear wheel skirt with longer rear overhang. Personally, I don't think you could squeeze the Series 60 on a 8V-92TA designed bus.
The Cummins ISL 8.9 liter is available up to 450hp and 1250lb/ft torque. That would be very close to the same dimensions as the 8V-92TA, plus be about 850lbs lighter. Good Luck, TomC

I have a 91 with an 8V seated coach. I looked long and hard at this with several local mechanics. The conclusion was for a 60 and 5 speed alison, you would have to either modify the tag or as an alternative, split the bus behind the tag and add 2 feet. I don't need to tell you either option is a ton of work and expense. Since my 8V only has 82,000 original miles, I decided to forego the time and expense. If your friend likes doing tough jobs, it is doable. I noticed you said HT 740, don't know about it.

The XL, or 40ftr only has 1 wheelbase.
The 45's have 2 different wheelbases 1 for the motorhomes and charters and 1 for the entertainer chassis.
In 1994 the first year Prevo came out with the 60 series they coupled it with the 740 5 speed Allison trans so if you are looking for some info go find a 94 chassis.
IMO that 94 is the best year to get. I do not think the 6 speed is as good a tranny as the 5 speed.
When they started the 6 speed in 95 they altered the axle housing with a hump to create clearance.
If you want a 6 speed in that 87 I believe you will need the newer tag axle configuration. If you go with the 5 speed I believe it will fit.
5 speed was a HT755 Allison
If a H755 will fit then a world 6 speed is shorter and should be no problem to put in
